about both the overall talents of scott evans and the depth of the cana dian national junior softball team that if the 17yearold makes the squad this summer it could well be on the strength of his hitting the grade 12 student at stouff ville district secondary school is a flamethrowing righthanded pitcher whose pitching and slugg ing were instrumental in bring ing an allontario softball title to stouffvilles bantam rep team in 1987 he pitched for the sdss team that won its first ever york region softball championship last year and was conscripted to play for the napanee team that went to the finals in the 1988 canadian midget playdowns and while he will be a key player in the town midget rep teams drive for both the provin cial and national titles this season evans has even bigger dreams swimming around in his head evans found out last monday he had made the ontario sum mer games softball team that will compete against other pro vincial outfits at the summer games in saskatoon saskat chewan this august but the brightest feather in his cap could be his inclusion in the lineup of canadas select junior team that will compete interna tionally this year evans left friday may 12 for a sixday tryout camp in st catherines he will then go to oshawa today may 17 for more workouts with the national team hopefuls the roster will then be cut by 10 players after which time the team willhead down to the united states for exhibition games in il linois and massachusetts upon returning back to canada the final lineup will be announced may 25 its a matter of how well i per form in the workouts says evans of his chances of cracking the national roster if i dont make it as a pitcher i could make the team as a designated hitter carl myers the 1988 allontario champion vandorfstouffville juniors coach who will help coach evans midget rep squad this year feels the aggressive youngster has a good chance of catching on with the canadian team theyll want him for his bat and maybe his pitching too says myers and while anything he does after that may be anticlimatic evans is talking about doing a lit tle pitching for the richmond hill merchants this slimmer which could
