medals saturday in the upper york interclub figure skating finals at aurora p brenda placed third in both o open interpretive and gold dance oi other medal recipients from stouffville were jennifer selwyn bronze preliminary interpretive leslie penny silver silver interpretive elizabeth davia silver gold interpretive and janine jef frey bronze jr silver dance stouffvilles michael pride placed however senior spartans fall short in bid to make playoffs by bruce stapley the stouffville district secon dary school spartans fell just short in their bid to grab a playoff position last week the spartans took two of four games in a hectic season- concluding week doubling their victory total to that point in the season the spartans started the week strong hammering newmarket 8157 on monday don clearwater was the big pointgetter for stouf fville hitting for a total of 27 juniors earn playoff spot the stouffville district secondary school junior spar tans defeated st roberts 4540 last tuesday marnier had 10 each coach dave connell feels his team could be a major force in the playoffs this week if we pass as well as we have been and score our layups and foul shots we will have good suc cess in the playoffs mark brooks had 13 and guy cowan 12 on tuesday it was clearwater again leading the spartans to an exciting 4645 win over st roberts brooks added eight points as did john hall but thursday found them up against a red hot st andrews team and the stouffville boys bowed 5440 despite clear waters 21 points scored friday the spartans were ob viously out of their depth against thornhill as the visiting cagers dumped them 6543 to end any hopes they had of making the playoffs cowan led stouffville wih 12 points spartans coach jim fletcher feels his team never recovered from the slow start brought on by the season starting when his basketball mainstays were still involved in the allontario volleyball playdowns that caused us to get off to a bad start says fletcher i wish we had another month for basketball wed be right there but we cant really use that as an excuse don clearwater 27 points
