c6 tribune january 4 1989 yule assembly offensive by andreavalerie grundy sdss correspondent on the last day of school before christmas holidays this years oac students attempted to create an assembly as good as all the others unfortunately though they did not succeed instead they managed to offend teachers and students although inten tions were good the skits were not the first scene was quite fun ny regarding the morning an nouncements and some subtle hints towards the way the school could change were thrown in on the other hand though the what if scene was in ex tremely poor taste it showed a lack of respect for something that many find sacred this scene showed the virgin mary with baby jesus when the three wise men arrived these wise men were jamaican reggae men who in stead of bringing christ gold frankincense and myrrh brought him marijuana and liquor this carried things way too far and caused many people to get up and walk out city slicker undergoes complete role reversal by kate gilderdale when people ask us why we originally moved to stouffville in 1976 we have to admit it was more by good luck than good judgment after a year of living on the 16th floor of a nondescript apart ment block in toronto we decid ed high rise living was not our idea of heaven wed sold our house in england for a princely 16000 and felt it was time to look for a more permanent residence our friends who lived on a farm north of town declared en thusiastically that theyd found just the house for us in stouff ville we inquired incredulous ly but thats out in the country beyond the reach of civilization and the ttc out of curiosity we did a tour of the house before we reached the stairway we knew this was our kind of place wed just have to find something similar in the city it wasnt long before reality was staring us in the face on our budget it was eithera hangmans special on two square feet in toronto or the house we loved in stouffville the latter won after all we didnt really have to spend much time here and it would only be for a couple of years until we could afford to return to the real world so we moved in treating the place as a hotel somewhere to spend evenings and weekends but we didnt really live here our life and interests all centred on the city that changed shortly with the arrival in quick succession of two children having a family not only concentrates the mind wonderfully it also flings new parents into a different social whirl consisting of moms and tots there was the waiting room at the doctors office arid an endless succession of lineups to enroll the offspring into library programs swimming lessons and nursery schools inevitably we began to meet other parents firm friendships sprang up with people who were usually known as ryans mom or chris dad almost without beven nnfjcmatkham village 1c we are also offering an excellent selection of special occasion dressing at up to 75 off realizing it we were beginning to feel at home in small town ontario it wasnt until i visited the great metropolis with one small child in a stroller that i discovered the role reversal was complete instead of feeling at ease i was overwhelmed by the traffic noise and callous disregard peo ple show for each other in stouffville the sight of so meone pushing a stroller brought a smile and a helping hand to open doors as we began to appreciate the gentler delights of stouffville the town itself was growing and changing to accommodate an ex panding population we started spending more of our free time close to home instead of fighting city traffic we still love to spend time in toronto with attractions like the science centre ontario place roy thomson hall and the museum it has a tremendous amount to offer but now we real ly know there really is no place like home dqiephask whitby 3 faswiqns shhes the winter time sole off to know our store is to know how good our sale really is treat yourself visit us soon 141 main street north old markham village phone 2946970 406 dundas street west whitby phone 6661161 plenty of free parking at rear of stores markham super centre 166 dennison ave 4759705 lighting onlimiteb gigantic 2 for 1 sale continues on all fall winter stock the unionville planing mill 139 main street suite 205 unionville ont 4773262
