stouffville branch 459 of the royal canadian legion held a solemn memorial worship at the oneill funeral home a tribute much appreciated by the family by kate gilderdale stouffville when we arrived in stouffville 13 years ago youth recreation programs were much as youd expect to find in any small town hockey and skating in the winter baseball and swimming in the summer then stouffville began to grow attracting people with new ideas and interests when the new library opened it hosted a variety of preschool programs a few years later michele green now owner and director of stouffvilles dancecentre began teaching preschool dance there it was the beginning of an in credibly successful venture one that now rivals sporting ac tivities for popularity and with the annual jrecilal oner thats become ah integral part of stouff villes cultural life yet if a new facility cant be found 300 children and 150 adults will find themselves without a studio or the expertise of a dedicated and highly qualified teacher with increasing pressure on space at her present location and a year left on her lease michele had begun planning for the future she noticed that a nearby property was available for rent she visited the site and discussed plans with the owner they came to an agreement the dancecen tre would occupy the property beginning jan 1 1989 after necessary renovations were completed michele made arrangements to terminate her current lease at the end of december last week her prospective landlord advised michele the premises had been leased to another party for more money by this time the owner of the present studio had leased his pro perty to someone else also leav ing michele with nowhere to con tinue her program the dancecentre cant be allowed to close for the many local children whose leisure ac tivities revolve around it and who have- invested time effort and boundless enthusiasm to im prove and grow in their chosen discipline the loss of this facility will come as a bitter blow for michele herself its the end of the dream shes worked so hard to make a reality no doubt shell be forced to look to another community io start over again perhaps one day stouffville will obtain another dance studio and a new director unfortunate ly todays students wont reap the benefits on the other hand this is stouf fville the friendliest town in on- tario perhaps
