october edition of the durham board of educa tion newsletter entitled highlights arrived on my desk wednesday this in formative pamphlet describes in detail all about the withdrawal of the lords prayer from classroom ceremonies in a separate paragraph it says the court ruling does not apply to separate schools in my opinion this is the height of unacceptable discrimination the learn ed judges must have known that had the ban been ex tended across the board a separate school riot would have resulted welcome back good to see ross steven son in the thick of the cur rent federal election cam high has changed drastical ly from what we remember we always thought school was supposed to be fun but seriously how many enjoy getting up and going to sdss we always thought when you made it to high school you were considered a young adult and when you reached your senior years you were an adult when youre 17 or 18 years of age are you not supposed to make your own decisions here we have spares taken away and study halls put in we can no longer drop or change subjects in senior grades without parental consent isnt that going a little too far we remember when we started school everything was alright we had our fun times and our serious times however now that weve reached grade 11 it seems schools been turned into a prison we feel respect between students for teachers and students for school is lost now we face our biggest pro blem the smoking area we realize the fact the board removed all smoking areas from school properties in york region we feel too much fuss is being made of those students who smoke on edward street yet nothings said about those teachers who also smoke there or about how they throw their cigarette butts on school property we realize we shouldnt criticize without providing solutions our first request is place gar bage cans at the top of edward street also one containing sand and water into which students can deposit their butts on the way to school we also want a designated smoking area off school proper ty but close to the school wed really appreciate it if so meone will respond to these requests sincerely concerned students ofsdss ay h i m 1 1
