a4 tribune september 7 1988 therapy we noticed with interest and appreciation the august 10 1988 letter from andrew james ex- pressng concerning because of having encountered a dog in parkview home for the aged it is almost certain the dog observed by mr james belonged to a local volunteer who regularly br ings his pet to parkview for the en joyment of the residents as part of our pet therapy program in this program pets are brought into the home with certain understandings and conditions we obtain proof the animals have had the necessary immunization shots and are in a healthy condi tion they are required to be on a leash and under constant supervi sion they are monitored by our staff as well as by their owners visits are scheduled once a week on the average pet therapy is recommended and approved by the ontario ministry of community and social services under the conditions noted above we find residents who enjoy pets look forward to the visits and sometimes impaired residents respond to pets more than to people pets help alleviate loneliness and the feeling that all earlier forms of enjoyment are no longer available touching a dog for example may bring back pleasant memories and stimulate the interest ofvfa resident while we appreciate the concern of mr james in our opinion pets under proper conditions have something worthwhile to offer the people living in the various parkview facilities and do not pre sent a health hazard- jm nighswander parkview administrator the tribune established 18s8 james thomas bruce annan patricia pappas jennifer hutt r ednoi activity theres a cat out there id state in a commanding tone and aii family members would respond manning their respective battle stations if somuch as a whisker was visible the pesky feline would be pelted by ver bal insults maybe a wellaimed apple if such could be found its not that we hold an intense dislike for cats its just that we enjoy car dinals blue jays and mourning doves more a lot more our feathered friends beat a hasty retreat if so much as a paw appears on the property sometimes they dont return for days several years ago our private do main was inundated by cats all colors shapes and sizes from early morning until late at night thered be at least one for the first time in a long time four years we visited the canadian na tional exhibition we made up for lost time we toured the grounds and buildings three times and enjoyed it as much or more each time what attracted our attention more than even the exhibits was the cleanliness of the site perhaps taking a cue from canadas wonderland the area was immaculate this was due in part to attention provided by cleanup crews also slowly but surely people are becoming more waste conscious folks at least most folks no longer dispose of garbage where they stand or sit rather they search out containers the improvements amazing on the negative side why not a whitchurchstouffville day at the ex other communities share this spotlight of attention why not us in the media brochure made available through the cne publicity of fice we noted various dates set aside for towns to shine including markham newmarket milton aurora richmond hill alliston and georgina but your support is needed sept 18 is terry fox day in whitchurchstouffville the 10 kilometer walkrun is spon sored by the tribune in cooperation with a team of local organizers in cluding dixie sellers barb schell beulah king and bill giles while the response in dollars has been outstanding the response by par ticipants has been disappointing one hundred and fifty people out of a town of 17000 isnt exactly exceptional in an effort to inspire a spirit of com petition the tribune has arranged for a plaque to go to the area school with the most participants summitview won it in 87 orchard park were winners last year in total 8312 was raised wed like to see more involvement by all ages there s really no excuse the com mittee has lowered the restrictions so that bicycles are now allowed so come on folks pledge your support and your participation its good exer cise for a great cause whitchurchstouffville was noticeably absent its no secret that music town on tario thats us could make pale by comparison those programs offered by municipalities many times our size our talent cup runneth over so why hide our light under a bushel council we suggest should authorize clerkcoordinator pat oakes to dash off a letter to the cnes entertainment organizer immediately so whitchurch- stouffville can be included on next years allstar agenda we appreciate the talent our town has to offer lets allow others the privilege of appreciating it too an error dear editor hind sight is 2020 vision to repeat an old cliche im sure ws council wishes it had given additional thought to its produce sales bylaw before giving it the stamp of approval to err is human ill reserve judgment on our politicians when i find out if theyre big enough to admit a mistake and make the necessary changes mrs grace booth kr 2 stouffville perched under the feeder licking its lips in anticipation on occasions wed find the scattered remains of a few feathers an ominous sign that a harmonious songster had met an untimely end of late these fourfooted trespassers have conveniently disappeared giving our birds full reign of the roost what a relief the sergeantatarms thats me no longer keeps one eye trained on the great outdoors while washing the dinner dishes while im the cat disliker wife jeans the cat detester the feel of fur brushing up against her leg creates a scene the sound of which can be heard all the way down the street dont ever bring one of those things around here is a common command whenever roundtable discussions turn in this direction and she means it personally i think were being a bit harsh i see nothing wrong with a com mon house cat as long as it stays in the house its the outdoor variety that bother me so much and only because of the birds but this aspersion to fourfooted felines may soon end daughter mary- lynn agreed to babysit a kitten last weekend and had a ball we all did this cute little bundle of fur called felicia only a few weeks old displayed all the living room etiquette of an adult not once to my knowledge did she make a mistake which is more than can be said for susie our pet beagle and shes seven furthermore she ate only a fraction of what a dog consumes a spoonful of kitten chow and sardines plus a thimbleful of milk and quiet marylynn spent an hour searching for her saturday only because she didnt make a sound she found her curled up in the top drawer of a bedroom dresser how she reached such heightsno one knows j as much as we hate to admit it we fell in love with this cute little critter so much so we hated to see her go even jean wiped a tear from her eye when the kittys owner came to call on monday when the can-i-have-a- cat conversation came up again at the dinner table no one said a word does silence mean consent not entirely but none of us will be the least bit suprised if an audible meow is detected under the tree on christmas morning editors mail amazing dear editor im one of your drivers that helps clog up the main street of stouffville every saturday i know its a source of irritation to many local residents and shoppers the questions been asked why dont we choose another route there are two answers most in cluding myself are afraid of get ting lost also we enjoy driving through stouffville on a positive note i wish to men tion the great improvement within stouffvilles downtown in the past two to three years its really quite amazing for awhile it was rather seedy now its attractive and getting better all the time i trust this short note will make our presence every saturday a lit
