famous red baron during a world war i dog fight last week town councillors voted to purchase the painting and donate it to the whitchurchstouffville museum markham resident doug warne spotted the painting in the united states and brought it to councils attention mr warne suggested that the painting should hang in a prominent place at the high school he also suggested that some momentos of the late capt brown be acquired for the museum and has spoken to the former airmans daughter about it on ordination issue area pastors disappointed at ruling surface treatment a number of roads in whitchurchstouffville will be treated to keep diwn the dust this fall these include the north end of william st pine st glad park north end extension bomar rd joyce blvd maple grove and the 7th cone from bloomington rd to vandorf by kate gilderdale the united church of canadas decision to allow the ordination of homosexuals has been greeted with some disappointment by stouffville area minister from other denominations as a church we feel it is basically denying what the scrip tures teach on that particular issue commented rev bob fleming of springvale baptist church we feel it is a real setback for the church to adopt that policy he added last week the general council of the united church approved a resolution stating that all people regardless of sexual orienta tion who profess faith in christ and odebience to him are eligible for ordination while unwilling to comment directly on the united churchs decision father jim adams at st marks catholic church reiterated his own churchs posi tion on the issue the roman catholic teaching is that we consider homosexuality an unnatural perversion and against the law of god he said we believe homosexuals should be treated with compassion and charity but we feel it is sinful for them to in dulge in homosexual behavior said rev james shantz of long term plan needed on sewer issue king from page al in addition to projects already allocated sewage capacity all of them approved by a former ad ministration the town current ly has only 132 units worth of capacity for future growth the town has set aside 54 of those units for infilling within the current urban boundaries and wants the rest for future in dustrial growth but those plans could be scuttl ed if developers of the dulverton area win their case at the ontario municipal board omb they contend that because dulverton paid for expansion of the plant several years ago they should receive all the excess sewage capacity if dulverton wins then infilling and industrial development would be halted mayor sainsburysaid she said that it is out of the question to develope a large mumber of lots on septic tanks because of the potential en vironmental damage the mayor does not want to see underground water poisoned by nitrates and chlorides as has been the case in balianlrae and musselmans lake she noted that council is not ex panding the urban development area but needs extra sewage- capacity to fill out the areas already designated for development we ran out of sewage before we ran out of land she said shes upset that we cant get the chairman to set a date for discussion on the issue mayor sainsbury noted that a number of projects are on hold including some that include af fordable housing pending the omb decision shes sure if the matter came to a vote at regional council she would have the support of a majority mr king insists that part of the problems is in whitchurch- stouffvilles failure to revise its official plan to designate where future growth should be he added that the region could have a meeting but there would be no documentation on which to base a decision nothing can be done in the short term he said but in the long term whitchurchstoiffville will probably get its wish and hook into the big pipe or a sister sewage system that might be built to allow for enough sewage capacity to the year 2011 even if a trunk sewer was built from stouffville to markham for a big pipe hookup land developers along the way must be considered as well he said other rural towns such as east gwillimbury face the same pro blems as whitchurchstouffville and a decision has to be made on how large such towns should be allowed to grow mr king said its not a small question and it cant be addressed quickly the regional chairman added wideman mennonite church i guess my only comment would be that the church needs to carefully examine whether it is holding to the teaching of scripture the issue is faithfulness to the scriptures rev marlin ressler of heise hill brethren in christ church also took issue with the united churchs decision i would not favor the deci sion he said i would be very opposed to it his opinion was shared by stouffville missionary church pastor douglas gray we were quite disappointed with the way things went he commented rev wayne reed of stouffville united church is away on vaca tion and was unavailable for comment preston lake work the preston lake south property owners association has been given the goahead to remove some trees and change the grade of the shoreline whitchurchstouffville council approved the work subject to ade quate liability insurance for workers and permission from the metro toronto and region conservation authority recycling award whitchurchstouffville council has
