crozier looks on bruce stapley bv chris garbutt the stouffville bantams werent exactly robbed of a vic- tory wednesday jp could have been mose for pee wees j by chris garbutt jj sure its the toughest team in the league and yes they did nake the score respectable but when the stouffville pee vfees lost 72 at home to jijamalea wednesday you 6uldnt help but think that they 6uld have won this with a few nore players the pee wees have been ilagued by manpower shortages ill summer they even had to orfeit one because they only had ight players after a man was ejected but they seemed to be fgetling by however you cant fool around with bramalea unfortunately touffville was forced to field ttfeir third- and fourthstring pit chers against a team they jiavent beat all season but derek harrison and vince wilson held up pretty well against the hardhitting visitors while in several jams both were able to induce ground balls to get important outs stouffville also had trouble get ting their bats going they didnt manage a hit until wilson smack ed a solid single in the fifth inning the pee wees only runs came on wild pitches in the first kevin nichols walked reaching third on two more walks he came safely home on an errant pitch to kevin cargill cargill walked but with the bases load ed they couldnt capitalize dave carmanico later raced across home plate on a wild pitch with none out in the to hear of the trade that sent teammate wayne gretzky to los angeles tuesday its business big business its not monday night slowpitch he said i hadnt really been following all the rumors in the newspapers acton said before heading off to switzerland for a 10day vacation it was a shock he said i came home at four in the after noon and someone phoned and told me so i just watched it on the news like everybody else acton believes gretzky will be missed to say edmonton is as good a hockey team as they were before the trade would be difficult but he claimed time will tell just how the trade will affect the team edmonton is getting a talented player jimmy carson time is on his side hes a young guy acton said then theres the other player and the three firstround draft choices no one can predict how it will work out for either team keith added the trade will have a positive effect on fan in terest in los angeles its certainly got the world talking the question now he said is whether the oilers will still have enough to see them through the rigors of postseason play the oilers still have to be favored to win the stanley cup he said we still have four or five of the best players in the world and coach glen sathcr is a survivor hut it will come down to how much we have to spend in terms of longer more gruelling playoff scries to get into the finals keith said he got to know gretzky as a teammate after coming to the oilers late last season he claimed he didnt have any inclination a trade was in the works he refused to comment on the controversy surrounding the trade as a hockey player its not for me to wonder why so to speak he said peoples feelings about what other people think is right dont enter into the picture as for the remaining oilers keith said grctzkys absence could motivate the stars on the team to prove they can win without him only time will tell acton is in the middle of contract negotiations with the oilers and he hopes he will stay in edmonton for two more years his 10day trip is also partly business as hes also exploring the possibility of playing in switzerland someday he said hes looking forward to training camp in september this summer had gone by fast he said acknowledging that his stanley cup spring has made the offseason seem much shorter in fact they lost 94 to green- bank a rather convincing score but basil luciano and scott mckinley might argue that they were robbed both had hard hits to the outfield only to be put out by spectacular catches and coaches basil luciano sr and bob fraser are positive their team was robbed when the um pire announced the game was over five minutes before the curfew the game is under protest they greenbank can have the win the senior luciano said its just not right that these kids dont get a chance to play as much as possible and although it was unlikely that stouffville would have scored five runs in one inning it ccrtainly wasnt unheard of greenbank did the same thing to the home side in the first pitcher roger steiner was roughed up early by the opposi tion as he struggled to get the ball over the plate he got no help from the infield as they racked up several errors scott mckinley put the ban tams on the board in the bottom of the first with a twoout home run to right that was practically in markham before the fielder caught up with the ball the blast knocked in luciano who had singled shawn sorechetti was then a hit batsman and reached second on wild pitch mike pongracz brought him home with a single pongracz came in to relieve steiner in the second but gave up two more greenbank runs stouffville added one more in the second when mike mccool walked and raced to the plate on keith piettes hard hit single to left the bantams werent much of a threat after that pongracz set tled down and struck out four in his four innings pitched but the bats were silent other than a bill pride single and luciano and mckinleys couldhavebeens scott evans bat leads to
