establish fund re salary rollback proposed by harry bowes of york region board of education dear editor i write to support the views of harry bowes in this matter and to add my opinion that in a perfect society we would have the means of establishing an in dividuals worth and the value of his contribution to a particular undertaking we do not however and are forced to consider alter nate arrangements i offer the following for consideration and implementation by the members of the york board of education we have the public declaration of mr bowes to the effect that he is happy to perform a rather onerous job if the number of meetings called is any criterion for considerably less than what the organization seems prepared to pay there well may be others of the board prepared to do the same if the final vote is any declaration of commitment i would like to see the difference between the funds voted and the funds needed by the individual members placed in what could be called the community project foundation of york region this is a charitable organiza tion which would be formed as a result of initiatives taken by the york region board of education in respect of the following a to develop support and advance educational program mes experiments and endeavours of any kind which in the opinion of the board of direc tors will promote the cause of education generally andor benefit the community b to solicit funds from public and private sources in order to provide funding for community programmes within york region c to assist schools and com munity groups to develop pro gramme proposals which may be supported by alternate sources of funding with a chairman and 15 members on the board it would not seem to involve too great a sacrifice to bestow thirty or thirtyfive thousand on the foun dation for its purposes over a year this generous action on the part of the trustees i am sure would attract the attention of york region citizens who would be moved to match this unselfish act on the part of their elected of ficials in little time the fund could be effectively supported and functioning to the benefit of our community properly ad ministered it could grow quickly as more and more citizens of our area would gripped by the benefits which would accrue to the community by its operation as in all things there is little new under the sun we would ex pect that the trustees and indeed all who support the fund would receive receipts which are accep table for income tax purposes east york is working on this same concept at the present time and york region could benefit also by taking this on mr editor our trustees should be encouraged on your editorial page to accept their honorarium as currently approved with pro viso that they become con tributing members of the com munity project foundation proposed sincerely james t west the coach house stouffville by jim thomas publisher congratulations to court ney wallis an honors graduate of
