sexually speaking by jim thomas editorials na moneyhungry trustees its likely every newspaper in every community across york region will be carrying derogatory editorials related to the approved 458 percent increase in trustees salaries we too that such a preposterous wage hike could be perpetrated on region taxpayers is unbelievable unbelievable but true the 18000 stipend effective dec 1 1988 is all the more offensive since it comes hot on the heels of a record 272000000 budget one following the other leaves only one conclusion board members dont care this however is only partly true neither the budget nor the honorarium received unanimous approval harry bowes of whitchurchstouffville for ex ample voted against both regardless its the end result that counts trustees are taking regional ratepayers to the cleaners the wheels are turning things are shaping up the decision by councillor wilf morley to contest the mayoralty and mayor fran sainsbury to defend her position has set the political wheels tur ning in whitchurchstouffville heres how the situation stands ward 1 councillor margot mar shall no commitment officially but shell seek reelection and could be acclaimed ward 2 councillor ron robb no commitment officially but hell seek re election and could be acclaimed ward 3 councillor jim rae no longer living in the ward hell likely retire ward 4 councillor wayne emmer- son hes seeking reelection and could be acclaimed ward 5 with councillor wilf morley contesting the mayoralty this position is up for grabs ward 6 councillor jim sanders hes seeking reelection and could be acclaimed board of education trustee harry bowes hes seeking reelection and could be acclaimed thats how we see it stay tuned in the past board members have sluf- fed off their responsibilities on the pro vince claiming grants in 1988 had been slashed by 7 million so what kind of bargaining tool does this give trustees having just padded their own pockets to the tune of 458 percent next time around the ministry should tell their subordinate critics to get lost board members should never become so egotistical as to think their presence cant be replaced if a 15000ayear salary is less than a trustees self- calculated worth let that person resign were certain a successor could be found even someone equally capable theres an escape clause in the sti pend hike since its effective after the nov 14 election however at this point in time most unfortunately are runn ing and most unfortunately will be re elected cftr 680 on the am dial is not my kind of radio station they dont play the statler bros johnny cash or hank snow my kind of music i tune them out like olives and grapefruit with one exception dr ruth oh no you say glancing to one side to see if your wife is watching its bkay dr ruth has a large listen ing audience of women too maybe even outnumbering men few however men or women have the nerve to admit it ive asked them who her wives respond i havent the time its good for a laugh husbands reply dont believe any of them rather i suggest its common practice for both husband and wife lo sit in separate darkened bedrooms earphones plugged in so as not to miss a word its a fascinating program with millions of listeners all across the united states and canada even the virgin islands no pun intended i find it hard to believe that this one lady dr ruth has cornered the market here in ontario surely theres someone a trueblue canadian who can come up with something similar or are stations like cfrb ckey and chum too squeaky clean to air it if so theyre out of touch no i dont condone her approach to premarital hankypanky in fact i find this disgusting but then im of the old school enquiries would indicate that when it comes to the sex life of mr and ms america im also out of touch at precisely 10 pm every sunday i swear theres a poweruse surge throughout whitchurchstouffville as folks flick on their radios and turn the dial to 680 good evening this is dr ruth westheimer the program is sexually speaking- youre on the air from san fransisco through to st johns sexually paranoid people reach for their phones some try for months before getting through while calls are undoubtedly screened what interests me most is the sincerity of callers concerns there are thousands of deeply troubled people out there all seeking advice they dont know where to turn or to whom dr ruth is hopefully the answer while some of the problems are sim ple boygirl spats that even a layman like myself could solve others are more complicated their stories would wring the heart out of a stone i repeat i dont agree with her seem ingly loose moral standards but i give her credit shes honest sometimes blunt in the end most callers agree with the advice given at least they leave we the listener with that impression dr ruth doesnt profess to be something shes not many times she recommends the patient see a medical doctor a therapist a psychologist or a counselor again most agree whether theres followup is anybodys guess occasionally on a particularly perplexing problem shell request the enquirer call her back again whether they do or dont is never known problem examples follow im sixteen in high school expec ting a baby and my boyfriends run out what do i do im going out with a married man hes promised to tell his wife and obtain v a divorce but hasnt should i stop see ing him i have a girlfriend but i like my boyfriend better should i tell her so what has all this to do with me personally quite a bit v last sunday a ntan called in from toronto his problem was a carbon copy of mine im a vorkaholicv he said my wifes the greatest but im seldom home how can i best display my affection surprise her with a boutauef of flowers dr ruth responded i guarantee it will work v i wonder i asked myself at tiae same time writing flowers in big red letters on my office calendar on saturday i did purchased six red and white carnations from a lady at the sales barn two dollars they cost you wouldnt believe the emotion it was like the price was 2000 but there was also suspicion for one eye was focussed on a second bag i tucked under the table is it alive she asked fortunately for me it wasnt j there was no inethodin my madness the alternate package contained only five pounds of bird seed j so do it today give the light of your life a bouquet of flowers but do it out of i appreciation not expectation then thank dr ruth player photos preserved for posterity thursday evening was photo night for several house league teams in the whitchurchstouffville minor softball association the pictures will be even more appreciated years from now as the boys and girls recall the joys of ac tive participation here george ross of george
