bringing to the of fice a sense of enthusiasm fun apd optimism that epitomizes his approach to life jf i was first vicepresident for a far before the election ed ex- ainsf i enjoy the club and the people- he was born in nova scotia in 1620 and went overseas with the my for six years during world jar two he met his wife doris while he was in england they married there in 1945 returning f5 canada fair with which he has been involved over the years one year i had 42 entries and i won 35 prizes he recalls although he doesnt do as much there now he still participates and is on the horse racing com mittee this year ed left his city job in 1974 to work as a caretaker at stouffville dist secondary school he then went to orchard park where he became a muchloved pal to the manv children he got to know hes officially retired from the school now but he still comes in every now and then to fill a gap when needed ed remembers one little girl who had just moved to orchard park from another school i found her crying in the hall he says she told me no one liked her at her new school i said to her your caretaker cares about you ed has always had a special way of communicating with the students and they in turn have brought their joys and troubles to him because he always takes time to listen to them his association with the lions club goes back to 1968 and he has held every position on the ex ecutive except secretary its a great club to be involved in he declares its people car ing for people and thats something i really believe in he feels the addition to lat- cham hall will be a great help to the club we will run the snack bar and that will be our home for the din ners we have twice a month he notes adding that the club also plans to have its meetings there that will save everyone a lot of time last summer ed helped out at parkview working on the gardens there as a keen gardener it was something he really enjoyed doing with what little free time he has he likes to do his own home gardening and a bit of farming although hes known stouff ville since it was truly a small town he has no problem with see ing it grow you meet a lot more people and thats great he says if our town goes on attracting peo ple who care and get involved the growth doesnt bother me a bit stouffville has changed con siderably but it seems to be changing for the better ed and doris have one son brian who lives in town with his wife and two children doris has worked with the stouffville medical centre for 15 years before that she worked at the iga ed has not yet had a chance to consider what changes he may implement during his year as president of the club any changes will be made through the executive he ex plains i havent had enough time to decide what id like to
