i wish to thank all members of the silver jubilee club for the gift presented to me at the annual meeting may 30 and for their co operation in past years the mayor and town council also deserve our durham road 21 allen taylor will serve as au ctioneer a number of excellent items will be offered including 12 matching pressback chairs 20 oldfashioned wooden chairs an assortment of antique dishes looking for a singing group to become involved a few of us on the committee at the time put in some phone calls and enquired as to who would like to participate ten ladies responded and six of these are still involved we often attend hymnsings and visit other churches that ex tend invitations mrs steiner notes weve sung at catholic baptist presbyterian and mis sionary churches in 1987 the group travelled to indiana to sing at the mennonite church convention the present group has eleven members including a pianist their repertoire of sacred music includes acappella singing mem bers practice together regularly if we have an engagement we practice once a week otherwise we get together at least once a month except during the sum mer- says mrs steiner practices are held in choir members homes all in the area the majority of songs are sacred mrs steiner explains were open to learning different types of music we dont have a leader we all have our own input the unity singers dont limit themselves to church services they performed recently at the goodwood christian womens club and they sing at parkview and other seniors homes were thinking of celebrating our tenth anniversary by doing something special next winter were planning a benefit concert mrs steiner states although details havent been finalized they hope to direct the proceeds to refugee work were hoping for sponsors to help with expenses she adds the group looks on its singing as a form of ministry one that pro vides pleasure to them personally and to their audiences we have a wonderful time together mrs steiner
