200- and 400- metre sprints as well as the long jump she came a close second in the 100metre dash tracey would normally qualify for the ontario meet but no meets at the provincial level are being held this year michelles mind set on winning track follow the jays i with kinsmen by bruce stapley i the stouffville kinsmen will be heading down to exhibition stadium in toronto for the second in a series of five blue jay junkets this tuesday tickets are 30 each includ ing transportation to and from the game by bus and snacks at la villeta prior to departure i all proceeds are going to the canadian ultimate goal is to study physical education after high school preferably in an amer ican college because they have better facilities she then hopes to teach physical education in either a high school or post- secondary setting to that end she has taken a job as sports director at tanglewood day camp in kettleby this summer she was a member of the mar- kham gymnast club until last november but she decided to zero in on track everybody has always en couraged me at track thats kept me going it has been that encouragement that has spurred her on along with her will to win and love of competing i love to run and do hurdles she says but it takes a lot of training mr and mrs croucher mrs leroy and mr fletcher teachers at sdss have encour aged me sometimes when im scared or when i have a negative attitude towards my perform ance they assure me im going to do fine michelle insists that even though she has winning on her mind every time out she has great respect for her competitors her involvement in track espe cially at the regional level has in troduced her to many new friends i know so many people from other schools she says thats whats so great about york and durham region its always friendly competition people con gratulate each other and wish the others good luck at her own school michelle claims that sdss spirit couldnt be better and the sports program benefits from it everybody participates in the intramurals and the teachers have great school spirit too she would like to see the in stallation of a proper running track on school property michel le feels this would encourage bet ter safer performances for school athletes while at the same time offering townspeople a place to run we have to run on grass now she explains that can be dangerous you can twist an ank le thats why i like to go down to york youre not afraid to run your fastest on a real track she hopes that the school board will see fit to install even a stone track and suggests the town could help
