a6 tribune may 4 1988 i editors mail ratepayer lets off steam pear editor this letter is rather long however there comes a time when if youre not satisfied with merely mumbling to yourself ab out townrelated matters our familys lived here over 17 years o write your local newspaper and voice an opinion first the traffic report that jost council you and i con siderable money it showed ex actly what anyone walking or driving could have told the town for free j even then it didnt go far enough stouffville requires a street ex tending north off main that street should be edward i when youre in the main core of traffic one must drive all the way fo the ninth line to get out of it or reach home mayor says thanks i stouffville mayor fran sainsbury lives at the end of a long lane off the 9th concession south of bloomington getting to and from the ninth line isnt always easy especially during winter months to this end ward 2 councillor ron robb has been a big help liv ing proof that chivalry isnt dead at a recent committee meeting mayor sainsbury presented councillor robb with a gift of appreciation an enscribed mug in a seethrough bag urged to make public the in scription mr robb reluctantly held the cup aloft it read i gave up drinking smoking and sex it was the worst fifteen minutes of my life flowery message dear editor through the tribune i wish to thank the claremont guides and brownies and their leaders for their part in selling daffodils april 8 my appreciation also to oper ators of the claremont corner store and the greenwood and bal sam general stores for partici pating in the campaign a total of 35113 was raised for the north pickering canadian pancer society s to all purchasers of daffodils my thanks as well i sincerely rosemary timms branch president t claremont undoubtedly edward street residents would object it would make their street too busy but i disagree when driving to the high school i go by these homes all the time this wouldnt be necessary if edward was open through to millard im sure business places like schell lumber and the coop would approve it would make it so much easier to reach both loca tions the high school speed bumps could remain to slow down traffic on edward i believe council should check motorists speeds on hemlock a residential area with many chil dren before a child is injured or killed i may sound prejudiced be cause i live there regardless many drivers travel too fast additional stop signs might help the cost would be small com pared to lives saved second ive heard complaints for years about how government becomes involved in regional matters and issues pertaining to the private sector its been said this shouldnt be and i tend to agree however when it comes to sunday shopping i feel the deci sion should be up to the municipa lities here in whitchurchstouffville were fortunate to have two news papers they should be asking the people how they feel the question could be put on a ballot i feel were fortunate to live close enough to larger communi ties who will probaby approve sunday openings if we must shop on the sabbath we can go there let us not forget stouffville isnt completely closed on sun days now the library is open the sales barn is open and so are several variety stores with respect to the westfield estates subdivision it stands to reason that the complete purch ase price shouldnt have been paid for these homes before they were approved in the future the town should hold sufficient money in reserve until all work is complete this could be accomplished by the pur chaser paying a certain amount to the municipality that would be held in trust its human nature to lose in terest in a project when all the money youre going to receive has been obtained up to now ive been talking only to myself the aforementioned concerns should be seriously considered by council sincerely mrs suzanne gold stouffville fwiltislllbflm more than a hockey reunion it was both a hockey em ployees at the town municipal offices i wish to make comment i believe the building is past the point of no return as the com munity grows so must the muni cipal staff im sure the present structure wasnt acquired with a population of 1g000 in mind if and when council makes its move towards larger quarters i hope the site stays the same i feel the head of government should remain in downtown stouffville its convenient for the majority of people as well as for the majority of staff it would seem to me to be a good move to acquire the former creamery property next door the site could be used for parking thus enabling the town to extend the present office to the south whitchurchstouffville is grow ing this is good our council must continually look and plan ahead i just hope our council plans to slay in stouffville sincerely murray packer millard street stouffville ill try it if you will says jennifer degeer ii left of grade 5 to christie foster 10 of grade 4 as they pass a recent letter to mayor fran sainsbury mr orourke makes the following points dear mrs sainsbury residents living on or around hemlock drive in stouffvilles east end are concerned about automobile traffic on hemlock our concern is for the many chil dren living in the area who must cross the street or ride bicycles on it we consider it dangerous for the following reasons 1 the street is over one kilo meter long which allows cars to reach high speeds quite easily 2 the street has two sharp curves one at each end that pro- whitchurch stouffville soccer club inc ipfn soccer competitive teams johannessen 6404764 hibits drivers from seeing far enough ahead to stop safely if a child is crossing 3 many flee marketgoers have figured out they can bypass the main street traffic by driving across hemlock to millard and then over to the ninth line this problem greatly increases the volume of traffic on saturdays most of the people using the road as a shortcut drive with little or no regard for the children who may be playing or riding their bicycles on this residential street 4 hemlock drive is a main street for school bus pickup and dropoff our children are stand ing on the side of the road several minulics in the morning if they live on the south side they must cross the road daily the bus stop for the children attending orchard park school is just at the end of the curve at the east end of hemlock any driver speeding around that corner would have no chance of stopping in time to avoid a child crossing the road at the bus stop this problem is com plicated further by the large num ber of parked cars on the street 5 theres been a lot of de velopment at the east end of hem lock that makes it an access route for many people this has in creased the volume of traffic con siderably sincerely walter orourke hemlock drive stouffville mr orourke enclosed a map indicating required stop signs in the area in addition he re quested a sign at the corner of hemlock drive and
