hast ings then jean harvey always had the interests of her children at heart thanks to this dedication the majority of pupils made their mark these were the remembrances of many attending the service saturday held from the oneill funeral home stouffville mrs hastings passed away march 22 at sunnycrest nursing home whitby she was 95 bom at peterborough one of six in the family of mr and mrs vyvyan harvey mrs hastings received her elementary and secondary school education there her first teaching position was at kinsale in pickering township she then moved to ringwood la ter she was calledhy the board of lemonville school to take over classes there when discipline got out of hand mrs hastings was an extreme ly clever lady also a gifted speak er her talents were continually in demand a member in the congregation of stouffville united church she took a keen interest in the womens missionary society she would later serve on the toronto dominion board of the united church of canada mrs hastings beautiful voice was a valuable addition to the un ited church choir she was often called on for solos jean harvey never knew her mother mrs harvey died when her daughter was only two weeks old she was raised by aunt eli zabeth who looked on her as one of her own family members cherish the memories of gatherings around the piano at their 7th concession farmhouse singing hymns she loved so much she was also handy with a nee dle and thread making almost all the childrens clothes she also dressed her daughters dolls working into the late hours of christmas eve so no one would be disappointed the following morning mrs jean hastings on her 90th birthday she touched many lives in many different ways rev wayne reed of stouffville united church said saturday each one who knew her remembers some thing particular something diffe rent something special he described mrs hastings death as a celebration shes passed through death he said shes been greeted by her creator mrs hastings was an avid reader who kept abreast of cur rent events she felt at home dis cussing any topic mr hastings predeceased his wife in 1976 prior to taking up residence at sunnycrest mrs hastings suf fered a fractured pelvis and was confined to scarborough centen ary hospital two weeks on the occasion of her 90th birthday she joined in a family reunion at the home of her son and daughterir law elgin and betty hastings rr 4 stouffville it was a gathering she very much enjoyed others in the family include daughters helen dr reginald morningstar of etobicoke ma- ryon mrs fred armstrong of locust hill three grandsons robert morningstar bryan arm- strongand larry armstrong and five greatgrandchildren sarah jason and jessica armstrong carolyn and mark armstrong mrs hastings was predeceased by three
