sonyazeisig under the head ing abortion a difficult deci sion published in the feb 10 jissue of the tribune since it was somewhat directed towards rev craig pitts and myself i appreciate the letter i hope my response will reach you and anyone else in a similar situation i thank you for sharing your very personal experiences with us regarding abortion it was a very vivid portrayal of the agony and heartbreak of a crisis pregnancy something we all need to know how my heart aches for people like yourself who have had to en dure such pain alone like you i disdain any faith that is sheltered from the real world of oppressed hurting and lonely people certainly that was not christs way his days were spent with those considered outcasts by the religious leaders of the day his footsteps led to theblind the hun gry the sick the imprisoned and the forsaken his strongest conde mnation was to those who worried about trivialities tithing of mint rue and cummin while neglect ing the important issues of jus tice compassion and faithful ness the anger that was voiced with regard to the supreme courts de cision was in no way directed to- wards people like yourself rather it was at a system that encourages the further victimiza tion of both women and children system that fails to hold men accountable and allows them to get women into trouble and then irun a system that deceives women by offering a quick fix ithat can boomerang into years of physical mental and emotional suffering i have worked many years lamong the hungry and oppressed in refugee camps and famine arcas of countries like ethiopia and haiti and have a child who is handicapped i can fully empathize with the anguish of sleepless nights crying infants unreached goals and crushed dreams i only wish i had known you eight years ago when you were facing your crisis its unfor tunate you could find no one to which to turn my wife sharon has spent con siderable time assisting in setting up centres where women facing crisis pregnancies or post abortion trauma can go for help there is hope there are answers even for the most de sperate cases you said your decision does not rest well with you today we would consider it an honor if we could meet you we cannot change the past but we can offer hope and happiness for the future beassured that we do love you unconditionally and would love to talk to you not as a judge or a preacher but as friends our home is your home whatever we have is yours to share you asked a valid and challeng ing question could an unwed young mother call on you in the middle of the night my answer to you and anyone else who needs someone to which to turn for whatever reason is a sincere yes well rock your child well lis ten and try to help in whatever way we can if we do read a text from the bible it will likely be the words of christ come unto me all who are we ary and heavy laden and i will give your rest take my yoke upon you and learn from me for i am gentle and humble in heart
