region briefs hearing date set for regional hq an ontario municipal board hearing to consider debenture approval for york regions plan ned 40 million administrative centre has been set for early next year the omb will consider the de benture request while a law team will square off against the town of vaughan over the new headquar ters building vaughan mayor lorna jackson warned nov 12 that her town would officially object to the headquarters application be cause the plan is detrimental to the financial position of the re gional municipality the hearing date has been set for feb 1 yorkwide transit study set for 88 york regional council has given the goahead for a transit study to help carry area commu ters into the 21st century the study will examine ttc in tegration extended service bus lanes and the possibility of a re gional transit authority representatives from york and other transit groups will sit on a technical steering committee during the study to reach conclu sions projected commuter needs for the next decade will be deter mined by the study to be con ducted early next year fire departments fix radio systems fire department officials are near completion of a plan to up grade radio systems in york to end interdepartment interfer ence that poses problems during emergency situations members voted last week to establish two emergency base sites as backups for municipal dispatch system failures when the new system is working parents unhappy with proposed boundary change john zupancic meeting with parents by deb bodine champion students graduating from st justin martyr catholic school in unionville may be attending high school inthornhill by september 1988 due to high predicted enrol ment figures the york region roman catholic separate school board is proposing a change of boundaries and if approved at the january board meeting grade 9 students will attend st robert catholic high school on leslie st graduates of st justin martyr are now sent to brother andre catholic high school in mar kham this proposal has not met with favor from parents of children attending the elementary school at a meeting of the management committee of the york region separate school board thursday penny anderson president of the pta stressed the importance of having children attend school in their own area we propose making the bound ary woodbine avenue or the 404 says anderson she ex plained that the group she repre sents is presently trying to get a new church established and their parish boundary is hwy 404 our children have been shoved from st john xxiii to st justin martyr in portables and we dont want to see it happen again all of their friends from other un- ionville schools will be at brother andre the director of education john zupancic will be meeting with concerned parents on mon dec 7 at 7 pm at st matthew catholic school to address their concerns the projected enrolment fi gures say it all when completed in august 1988 brother andre will comfortably accommodate 1247 students in the core school the projected enrolment for the 1988 school year is 1226 the fol lowing year that figure is ex pected to jump to 1496 without the st justin martyr students that is also assuming the catholic high school in milliken will be built by 1989 while the project has been prop osed approval and allocations from the ministry of education have not yet been received by 1989 it is expected that 376 stu dents from the milliken area will need high school accomodation st robert high school is not ex periencing the same growth prob lems in a school with room for 1222 students the projected en rolment for 1988 is 1351 including the 28 grade 8 students from st francis xavier school in 1989 however the enrolment is ex pected to drop to 1220 the new year he won the federal seat in 1984 as an independent candidate after defeating former tory mp john gamble roman was carried to victory by a coalition of tories and liberals dissatisfied with their 84 candidates but roman confirmed state ments made in an ottawa paper recently saying it was unlikely that voters would choose an inde pendent candidate a second time he denied specifying which par ty he would consider joining though he is known as a longtime progressive conservative sup porter roman would only say the op tion still exists that he would join the tories were going to sit down and discuss exactly what anthony ro man is going to do he said but the stage will be set if he does decide to seek the markham tory nomination gamble re cently confirmed his intention to do so in an
