a4 tribune october 21 1987 editors mait bristled the letter from mr frank tucker carried in the tribune issue of oct 14 cannot be allowed to go unchallenged it undoubtedly bristled the hair on the heads of many readers in cluding myself perhaps this was the writers purpose regardless the correspondence can be shot full of holes several of his accusations cant be supported for example mr tucker says god does not dwell in temples made of hands god dwells wherever hes invited in our churches in our homes in our hearts mr tuckers statement should have read god does not dwell in temples only made of hands further he states we have young pastors who havent yet ex perienced life theyre puffed up with their bas their phds their bscs and their dds etc but have proved by their actions and their speech they do not follow their di vine master what an allencompassing re mark university degrees mark only a beginning ah professional people be they doctors lawyers or minis ters must start somewhere even mr tucker was young once and un doubtedly groping for a place in society but to say theyve proved by their actions and their speech they do not follow their divine master is in my opinion totally irresponsi ble and unworthy of further com ment while the whitchurchstouffville ministerial association deserves equal space to reply a trust the membership will consider itself above this sort of thing mrs freda muir bramble crescent stouffville the tribune established 1888 james thomas bruce annan patricia pappas editor publisher advertising manager editorial dept denise mcdonald its often ignored except by those directly involved recently this miracle theres no other way to describe it occurred close to home surgeons at st michaels hospital toronto reattached the right arm of a 25yearold stouffville man it had been severed at the shoulder we visited steve navratil of thicket- wood boulevard in his hospital room sunday he was in good spirits looking forward to his release steve along with his parents and brother dave are loud in their praise of all those associated with the rescue and hopedfor recovery it was teamwork in action from the scene of the accident through to surgery many people played a part not to be overlooked in this reallife drama are members on staff at ux- bridge cottage hospital theirs was a its magic and its fun oct 30 and 31 is magic weekend in stouffville major shows are planned at the high school with other performances in latcham hall and on main street a free magic workshop is scheduled fpr the grade 11 drama class of sdss oct 28 plus a free show stu dents only that same afternoon principal peter bright is leaving him self open to phone calls of complaint for the antimagic hounds will be baying they have every year since the festiv als inception theres no reason to think theyll stop now we commend mr bright for proceed ing with this program in the face of cer tain criticism he could easily have asked himself who needs the aggrava tion and turned the request down cold but he didnt and for this we give him credit call it sorcery call it illusion call it deception call it whatever you like we call it enjoyable exciting entertain ment in short its good clean fun undoubtedly all the weeping and wal ing thats accompanied past festivals has hurt attendance people asked them selves should i or shouldnt i is it right or is it wrong lest they be conde mned through association many re sisted the temptation and stayed away to the critics we say if you havent seen it dont knock it weve seen it and wc liked it wc plan to sec it again we hope you will too and later tell us what you honestly think i pivotal role on which so much depended they performed their part perfectly the speed with which the stouffville fire department and ambulance offi cials responded cannot be overlooked all were working against the clock and won remember when the province was seriously considering grounding the air ambulance service out of buttonville what a mistake that would have been their missions of mercy continue to save lives and limbs in this instance the maximum time limit was six hours the entire operation was completed with thirty minutes to spare close counts it would seem that in emergency situa tions contact between uxbridge hospit al supervisory staff and air ambulance operators is automatic even before a patient arrives the helicopters on its way theres no delay steve navratil his fiancee and his family are thankful for the co operation for the concern add to this the skill of a st michaels hospital surgical team and we have an accident victim with a new lease on life were into the bazaar season and bizarre it is i put one of these events on my to do list every saturday midweek too if thats the organizations choice my next scheduled stop is oct 21 to day at the silver jubilee club bethes- da wi are hosts next comes st james presbyterian oct 24 and the granddad- dy of them all the legion ladies auxili ary nov 7 in the veterans hall if others are advertised ill be there i scour the papers coming events col umn every week the secret of course is get to these craft extravaganzas early that is if homebakings your target its mine always forsaking all else even my pen note pad and camera i head straight for the baking booth it can be a battle a sort of survival of the fittest however unmind ful of trampled toes elbow jabs and hip checks i always seem to wiggle my way into the front line without too much trouble fortunately my fame is spreading as whitchurchstouff villes most voracious pumpkin pic consumer even as i enter the door some sympathetic tablemaid will often call out over here over here weve been saving one just for you thats if im lucky if not then i have to battle my way through the masses of selective pie- pickers like all the rest but its worth every bump and bruise no two fall bazaars are the same each in its own way is special on occa sions however i hit upon a bonus some thing extraspecial so it was saturday i attended the in praise of hands sale at the vandorf community hall it was hosted by wesley united church i could have stayed all day what made this bazaar so intriguing was a booth that had nothing for sale at all it was strictly for show and what a show it was the skill employed boggled my mind george e richardson cousin of the late george r richardson reeve of whitchurch twp grew up on a farm at cone 2 whitchurch a halfmile north of the aurora sideroad his parents were charles and alma richardson hes the proud father of two sons and three daughters and grandfather to eleven grandchildren a brother doug lives on cone 3 after leaving the 150acre property on cone 2 he farmed near queensville for ten years and then retired to newmarket where he now resides the ability to keep busy has never been a problem for george hes served on school boards and councils including two years as reeve and two years as de putyreeve in newmarket after 20 years with the lake simcoe conservation authority 11 years as chairman he remains on the executive committee well past the age of official retire ment mrs richardson suggested one day husband george should consider a hobby but what he wondered id never had a hobby in my life he said with roots deep in whitchurch soil and carpentry a practiced skill george de cided to combine the two he began mak ing farm models the end result is a dis play so exacting so profound its cap tured the attention of tv moguls in toronto yes i stood and stared not really be lieving what i was seeing its one thing to construct wagons cut ters buggies rakes and plows in perfect proportion one inch to twelve inches but george goes one step further he docs it all from memory thats right from memory no models no plans no anything little wonder folks gazed in amaze ment saturday scratching their heads tii while modest concerning his skill j george admits hes always had a liking j for horses particularly clydesdales and a j arabians he often showed at locals fairs he has a roomful of trophies andjj ribbons jj because of this interest its natural to j have a model team of clydesdales hitch- j- j ed to a wagon and a beautiful dapple- gray arabian pulling a cutter jl no george didnt construct thei horses he bought them after hed made the harness they fit to perfection h george works with oak it has a nicer finish he says whitchurch natives will recall the- severity of winters back in the 30s and- 40s mr richardson built the first horsehauled snow plow again with no plans some said it would never work but it did it sort of all came together he ie- members this is another model in his collection finished masterpieces are not for sale only for show george willingly j accepts orders however the display is called memories by richardson and what memories itcon- i tains for the moment i forgot my real- j reason for being there recovering just in i time to pick up the last community like stouffville would publish a let ter as was written by frank tucker under the heading professional pastors come under fire i know what mr tucker is saying that one doesnt have to be a man of the cloth to provide a pastoral ser vice and in this regard hes right the majority of ministers i know would agree with this even encour age it so why the poison pen attack it would seem that mr tucker has at one time or another been refused permission to occupy a pul pit in a particular church this of course is the churchs pcrogative the decision is usually made by a church board not the pastor re gardless not all laymen are suited for this role mr tuckers accusations are questionable he claims the ministerial asso ciation is a vehicle whereby pastors discuss their own personal short falls salaries pensions etc in discussing this with one of our local ministers im told this is just not so in private of course such dis cussions may arise but never dur ing ministerial meetings mr tucker says hes never been invited to address a church con gregation or church group at the church where i attend the complainant to my knowledge has never made this ambition known in fact no one i spoke to was ac quainted with the gentleman regardless of accusations level led against our local pastorate i hold them all in high regard for the work they do and the mission they serve mrs mabel
