been left angry and confused with the approval of a raymerville area church in their neighborhood in the face of overwhelming opposition but town officials claim a yearsold zoning designation would likely stymie markham if the church plan was vetoed and challenged by the landowner t the ontario municipal board several avea residents in the higginson st and cairns dr area turned out in force tuesday night at a public meeting to voice their opposition to the church plan lynn obrien who collected signatures from area residents in opposition to the proposal by markham gospel chapel criticized the town for holding a public meeting on a plan she believes was a foregone conclusion if we in the area who elect them say no then its their job to go to bat for us said an irate obrien on wednesday why have a public hearing if its going to be driven through like a bus markham councillor tom newall who supported the residents at the meeting by voting against the plan said he agreed with the groups contention that the church is poorly located he also supports the groups fears of increased traffic in the neigh borhood but newall said the church lands were designated for that use long before the development of the raymerville area he added that the omb would give that designation much weight in a dispute he and unionville councillor fred cox suggested the residents take the matter themselves to the omb for consideration felt the residents had a point and that in fact it isnt the most desirable location said newall but that zoning was decided long before raymerville developed as a community newall added that without omb intervention the town could use its authority to monitor the plan and minimize the effect of its construc tion on neighboring homeowners but despite town arguments frustrated residents say the majority rule in the area should have been considered by planning committee obrien didnt say whether the residents would formally oppose the plan and force an omb hearing we naturally assumed that if we had a majority in opposition it would be analyzed she noted that wasnt the case at all new car stolen at dealership a markham car dealership is some 22000
