and playing together to developa better way of life v js i what we see on the pickering airport site is such a communitybut one uymginfear jand uncertainty a community that has de- sveloped slowly under very difficult condi tions v in the beginning we were a fragmented community divided between the two groups the former owners were still hurt- fing from the destruction of their commmun- ity and resented the influx of ojitsidersn over the years we have overcome these problems and have learned to live in har mony we are no longer a- transientgroup i- but consist mainly of longterm tenants who are trying desperately to build a solid com- munity v we involve ourselves in the normal routine of community living we talk we visit and we playi but when it comes to school tchurchclubs or organizations some of us find ourselves travelling to other communities because our own insecurities- have not allowed us to establish these things within our own boundaries the use of pur community centres and other common buildings has been taken from us and rented out to others we some how feel more secure joining established groups in other areas it is a false security as we are not really part of those communi ties trite security will only be realized when people can plant roots and grow jhtifc 11117 iv v most of us are either raisingor jkaver- raised children herearid would like very 7- jriuclr to continue to do so we would also juke to see our own children remain here to work and raise families of their own so what do we seeas the future for the pickering airport landsite if we the tenants b are permitted to become ownersof these properties we see the solidifying of a struggling community we see the building of churches schools and shopping facilities we see the formation of clubs and organiza- ytipns we seemoniesthat we are afraid toti spend being used to upgrade our properties and mostly we see a community of happy families growing and developing in love and i harmony secure in the knowledge that they belong to uproot the many families that com- prise this community a commuhitythat has overcome overwhelming odds and emoa tional stress to develop a sense of being would indeed be a travesty of justice let us hot repeat the horrible upheaval of fifteen years ago we cannot put back together the hearts and homes of a former community that w troyed through an error in judgement by r previous government but we can make i conscious decision not to allow history to repeat itself ff we believe it to be in the best interest of not only our families in general but the country as awhole to redevelop this area from its current solid base by allowing the existing tenants the first option of purchase on these lands norah stoncr left liberal candidate for the hall thursday and later pledged her support for riding of durham west attended a meeting of the all tenants now residing in the airport area airport community committee ib the brougham jim thomas 9 i i grew up in the nursery industry and have seen tremendous changes over the last 40 years perhaps the most significant change in the nursery growing industry has been the development and perfection of a system of growing plants in containers often customers comment that when they plant a white rose plant beside balled and burlaped or bare root plants from other nurseries that the white rose plant keeps on growing and never looks back while the other plants seem to stand still its easy to tell them the secret its the roots while a dug plant spends time i and energy building a new root system a 1 white rose plant continues to grow be- j cause its roots have not been disturbed by digging i also tell thern that because of this strong root system they can plant a white rose plant even during the hottest and driest time of the year without any worry thus anytime is landscape time at white rose i come visit me or any one of our white rose garden centres and we will be happy to show you
