town of markham 8911 woodbine avenue markham ontario l3r 1a1 public notices illegal parkers beware responding to a large number of complaints received recently by the town of markham regarding physically able persons parking their vehicles in spots reserved for the physically hand icapped council recently followed the lead of several other major municipalities in increasing the penalty for such an off ence from 10 to 50 this new bylaw came into effect on august 1st 1987 new parking tickets have been printed and are now being distributed to the police department and the various agencies that enforce this bylaw on the parking lots of various shopping centres in markham if you park your vehicle in a handicapped parking spot without the proper provincial licence plate or authorized emblem from a municipality you should expect to pay the hefty sum of 50 a number of persons have complained to the municipality after receiving a ticket for parking in a handicapped spot while they are temporarily handicapped the officer who issues these tickets has no way of knowing such a situation exists and the municipality cannot withdraw a ticket issued under these cir cumstances in a case like this the town of markham will simply advise the complainant to wait for a summons and tell it to the judge dog owners warned town of markham bylaw number 1 0874 requires that all dogs in the municipality must be attached to a leash held by some person at all times when off the property of its owner other municipal bylaws make it an offence to permit a dog to befoul any highway park or private property in the town a maximum fine of 2000 is provided for the violation of any of these bylaws or an onthespot ticket for 18 may be issued against offenders a large number of complaints are received annually by the municipal- ity regarding dogs being permitted to befoul public and private proper ty and as a result these bylaws will be strictly enforced the municipality can do little in these cases unless the owner of the dog involved can be identified so we would request that persons observing offences under these bylaws attempt to provide informa tion on the offending dog owner
