staff of orchard park school exemplifies this motto mrs terhune soon to retire was once a banker on the staff of the nowdemolished imperial bank of canada yonge and queen streets toronto while she enjoyed the work her heart was in the clas sroom following marriage and two children she enrolled in teachers college commuting to and from toronto every day over the past 19 years mrs terhune has taught at only two schools stouffville high and orchard park shes work ed under four principals keith sutherland bill duxbury john hincks and jan delaat all are splendid people she says born in england mrs terhune came to canada at a very early age and resided in edmonton- alberta later she moved to toronto and then to parkway avenue markham where she and husband harry still reside one daughter anita rutherford is a graduate of sher idan college she also lives in markham another daughter cecile hallam is a graduate civil engineer and resides in pickering mrs terhune admits attending teachers college with a young family still at home was a challenge i couldnt have done it without the cooperation of my motherinlaw and my husband she says never once did she have second thoughts i knew what i wanted to do she recalls hundreds of students have benefitted from her guidance often she wonders where they all are today and how suc cessful each has been as definite as she was concerning a career mrs terhune is equally definite concerning retirement i never look back she states the time has come to do something diffe rent move on to new things shell continue such favorite hobbies as stampcollecting letterwriting and gardening next spring she and her hus band are planning a trip to australia and new zealand would she do it all again exactly the same she replies its been very worth while on june 23 mrs terhune says goodbye to her children for a last time on june 26 she says goodbye to her school both are the beneficiaries of her presence two months of holidays just ahead next week marks the conclu sion of another year for children attending the more than sixty elementary schools across york region most of these young people have already made plans for the two months of holidays ahead includ ing pupils attending st marks school stouffville some of their expectations follow mark spoorenberg will enjoy the ultimate in grade 8 gradua tion gifts a trip to europe hell be accompanied by his father an uncle and a cousin and expects to be away three weeks weve been planning for a year mark told the weekender karen healy grade 5 is saving up her holidays until september when she hopes to visit florida shell travel to the sunny south with her parents and sister lisa jaimie and cindy gonsalves grades 7 and 3 respectively will visit family relatives in chicago cindys also looking forward to a visit to fantasy island domenic altomare grade 7 will be building up his muscles this summer working for his father in the sod business hell operate a forklift unloading trucks chrystal hartung grade 7 will be boating on lake simcoe with her parents and brother jeffrey sometimes we sleep on board she says thirteenyearold friederike schuemer accompanied by brothers otto and horst will spend three weeks at pine crest camp at torrance ont camping is also in the holiday plans for marie leitch of grade 5 shell be accompanied by her pa- rents six sisters and two brothers aileen leadbetter also of grade 5 is looking forward to an exciting trip to england and ireland with her parents her brother liam and sister aine theyll be away a month elevenyearold lindsay ran dolph will spend much of the sum mer with her favorite quarter horse lil robin redford lind say hopes to participate in several competitions including one at markham fairgrounds her pa rents compete also lindsay says alison macdonald grade 5 is anxious to visit her grandparents and her greatgrandfather in prince edward island we go every year says alison house boating is in the holiday plans for 12yearold laura knight of grade 12 laura along with her parents and sister nicole will travel the trent waterway system its fun laura says alex jordan grade 4 will attend competition across ontar io related to the special olympics his father is an executive director with the organization andy tymon grade 4 is look ing forward to a trip to las vegas with his mother and dad two sis ters dorothy and barb and brother chris elevenyearold nelson wind sor will be assisting his mother in her mary kay business hes also looking forward to a camper trip to calgary both melissa miller and brian coughlan will be riding horses at high quest stables rr 3 new- ian lindsay above of success square stouffville and brian lewis below of rr 2 markham relax in a sauna completed recently in a grade 12 woodworking class at stouffville high jim thomas student woodworkers portable sauna hs project by jim thomas ian lindsay success square stouffville and brian lewis rr 2 markham are justly proud of their completed pro ject its a fullsize sauna constructed recently in the wood working shop at stouffville dist secondary school the assignment came as a personal request from mrs judy rodin of the sdss secretarial staff the students both in grade 12 accepted the challenge the sauna measuring eight feet high by six feet wide will accommodate up to seven people while the cost was esti mated at 2000 the projects currently under budget and close to completion mr and mrs rodin will relocate it to their cottage on snug harbour near perry sound the assignment was started last october ian and brian worked on it during regular classes and spares wally cur- rie the shop director provided assistance when asked the sauna weighing close to 2000 pounds is constructed out of cedar and completely prefab it can be dismantled and reassembled in a very short time ian said at first it took awhile to come together but its fine now were very happy brian stated mrs rodins pleased too i think they did a wonderful job she said for both boys its their final year at sdss the sauna they feel has been an excellent learning experience and a satisfying way to conclude their woodworking
