lull be fore the storm regardless the public meeting related to prop osed industrial development in the gormley area held june 15 at latcham hall stouffville stirred little controversy residents were told that indust rial buildup is far from a sure thing said town planner michael saunders town council is en- tertaining the idea of redesignat- ing certain lands for industrial use however many studies will have to be undertaken before plans can be sent on to queens park the more than 100 people in attendance were informed that whitchurchstouffville property earmarked for industry is in short supply other sites must be rede signatcd and the gormley area is being considered council said the proximity of hwy 404 makes the neighborhood ideal for this it was explained several residents said the purpose of the meeting was to obtain in formation and sound out the feel ings of area residents ron elliott of gormley seemed to sum up the opinion of most peo ple when he said we cant stop progress but we must preserve and protect the residential aspect of the area that now exists if we plan properly we can absorb if industry and benefit from it mayor fran sainsbury prom ised residents they would be kept informed of councils intcntioris every step of the way and would be afforded an opportunity to air their concerns before anything is finalized i if s t l 1
