appointment as wildlife co ordinator by the toronto humane society as part of an investigation into the toronto humane societys use of funds stanley sokol counsel for the public trustees office cited mr mackay for conflict of interest in ontario supreme court on may 19 all public charities fall under the jurisdiction of the pub lic trustees office mr sokol said mr mackay continued to serve and attend toronto humane society board of director meetings after he had been hired as wildlife co ordinator the newly created post is a 30000 a year salaried posi tion mr makay said he was flab bergasted by the allegations the night he was offered the salaried position mr mackay said he turned in his resignation to the board it was accepted he said according to mr mackay a toronto humane society bylaw permits employees to serve as board members but he didnt want the appearance of a con flict he said so mr mackay resigned mr mackay also denied he was promised the position of wildlife coordinator if as a member of the societys board of directors he voted in support of vicki mil lers takeover bid ms miller president of the animal activist group arc ii and other arc ii members gained con trol of the toronto humane socie ty early last year but mr mackay maintains that while he may agree with the arc ips mandate he has never been a member of the controver sial group mr mackay served on the toronto humane societys board of directors for four years he has been a ths volunteer for over 20 years the wildlife department operates under a budget of 50000 as wildlife coordinator mr
