bsc degree from waterloo university by corres pondence it wasnt easy even though lawrie looks back on it all with a smile the year was 1979 when she commenced her degree course studies in 1984 she graduated between times two children were born erin now seven and kelly now four but even these high priorities didnt deter her enthu siasm once id made up my mind there was no thought of quitting she says lawrie received her secondary school education in toronto and belleville obtaining an ontario scholarship in grade 13 she then decided to work awhile joining the staff of sterl ing trust in lawrie was aware her applica tion had been accepted by the york region board but she had no idea her placement would be stouffville i was ecstatic she said when word came through i really wanted to work here students attending sdss have an excel- lent reputation she claims this summer lawries em- ployed as a teacher halfdays for six weeks at bayview secondary school this means shell be all primed up for a full work schedule when the doors of stouffville high open in september after several years of beating the books has she reached the end of the road for now lawrie replies leaving her options open as for acquiring a degree through correspondence lawrie advises others to do the same but its not for everyone she suggests you must be truly com mitted lawrie admits many people helped june in tribute to her long and per sonal dedication to the profession mrs st john was honored during the elementary teachers asso ciation awards banquet thurs day at aurora highlands golf and country gra duation as a registered nurse she joined the staff of mt sinai- hospital toronto mrs st john decided on a career change after their son en tered school she enrolled in toronto teachers college unionville public school was her first teaching position the year was 1960 she taught grades 1 and 2 with 46 students in her class seven years later she moved to parkview asked to comment on major changes in the last 27 years mrs st john says interaction be tween children in the classroom is the most noticeable she appreci ates this its more natural she says it makes learning more pleasant and relaxed mrs st john says shes looking forward to retirement she plans to fulfill a dream of opening a craft store at her cottage site staff and students past and present wish her continued health and
