forget tm happy with all ive been able to accomplish says duffy stouffville dist secondary schools student council presi dent ive learned a lot about politics and hopefully helped establish a firm base for school spirit according to duffy his initial interest in bidding for councils top job was the schools general atmosphere and abundant school spirit i also wasnt totally satisfied with the schools administration and how it was being run for the students he says i felt i might be able to establish some sort of basis for outlets of school spirit and student involvement duffy claims some of his major goals included setting up football and hockey teams establishing a school newspaper and providing a radio show to students on lunch although these things havent yet been accomplished at least theyre in the discussion stages and people are thinking about them he says things such as these are events with which the whole town can get involved and at the same time encourage others to get involved as well although duffy does admit to being a little disappointed with his years results having set his goals a little too high hes espe cially proud of one accomplish ment weve held school dances at least once a month over the course of the year he says previously they didnt happen often enough to keep the students occupied but this time we not only improved on that but in corporated a wide variety of themes and introduced two semi- formals 1 wanted these things in par ticular because ive seen them happen at other schools and know sdss has the potential for so much more says duffy although we only touched on it this year im confident next years student council will keep these goals in mind when asked what words of advice he has for next years pres- ident duffy says your school is like a trust fund because there are 800 students who are all banking into your account that account isjj so important because what youre filling it with is memories and the quality of every one of those j memories is banking on you what im really saying con- 1 tinues duffy is aim high have good goals make sure the stu- dents want the same things you doj and never give up although duffy says hed be thrilled to run for president next year hes decided instead to de- vote his time to improving hisl math mark i truly hope the students standing for this office in the ius ture do everything they can tc1 make sdss the best place the most rewarding place and thef most enjoyable place it can bej because thats what serving on the students council is all about a memorable experience stouffville
