school ex ams for a very first time ive felt fear and anxiety flow through my wooden core ive welcomed senior students from grade 13 their nervousness and apprehension far exceed my understanding for them this is it this exam paper will set the course for the rest of their lives it will decide which path their fu ture will follow university com munity college or the working world i have seen lines of worry and concern etched permanently on young faces i have watched youth and innocence slip away as teenagers realize this is high school where pressures be come much more intense i have watched students cement their fu tures in academic careers i have seen others lose whatever chance they may have had of obtaining university degrees mine is a difficult job the question i wouid ask of you today is this is our exam system a legitimate way of testing our young people does a twohour twelvepage examination paper give any in dication what a person is really like or what hehe can do is our education system losing its focus is it playing the num bers game i do not claim to have the answers im only a desk i only work with facts the fact is its wednesday jan 21 the beginning of exam week
