success ful young accountant married in good health and seven months pregnant with her first child then in a matter of seconds ev erything came crashing down mrs pupella had just finished eating a bowl of strawberries at her parents lake muskoka cot tage when she suddenly suffered a ruptured aneurysm in her brain she was rushed to bracebridge hospital and then in what she considers a lifesaving decision by an attending nurse was wisked to toronto general hos pital were the seriousness of her illness was diagnosed her condition was so precarious at one point that doctors decided to deliver her baby prematurely a boy niko was born with a re lated throat disorder but has been doing much better since coming home with his mom brain damage had caused para lysis down one side of mrs pupel- las body thus making the recov ery process a tremendous chal lenge when finally released from hos pital she required extensive ther apy to help her relearn all the normal functions speaking writing walking etc that most healthy persons take for granted two subsequent brain opera tions were required and the pa tient is anticipating a third and hopefully final one before the end of 1987 i want to get it done and over with and i hope to not see another hospital for the rest of my life she said recently her speech still noticeably slow and deliberate mrs pupellas family mem bers are limited in their ability to assist her now that shes back at her rural stouffville home as a result the 30yearold mother is looking to the community for a helping hand shes able to manage most household duties involved with raising a young child but craves the free time that she cant afford at present im looking for someone to come in the afternoons or in the morning she said of the volun teer weekday position i can take care of him niko but once or twice a week id like to go riding the avid equestrians horse hobby is yet another thing that has been forced onto the back bur ner during the past year
