tribune august 6 1986 a7 dr janet cawley interim pastor stouffville the congregation of stouffville united church will welcome their new interim minister sunday sept 6 rev dr janet cawley of toronto performs what she describes as a specialized ministry bridging the gap between the time one pastor leaves and another arrives she stresses the word interim permanency isnt possible she says shell serve here one year similar to her role at ebenezer united church near milliken when a congregation wants to take a breather they call in someone on an interim basis she explains she resents the description filling in saying her work will encompass all areas of pastoral care rev cawleys career prior to ordination included a federal govern ment appointment to the united nations she was stationed in zierre the belgian congo she later did graduate studies at emmanuel college university of toronto i it will be rev cawleys first association with the united church in stouffville although prior to the interim appointment she met with the executive of the board im always flattered when asked to stay but permanency isnt possible she stresses this type of arrangement creates a freedom she says the people already know they dont have to live with you forever she states half jokingly rev cawley feels its a good move stouffvilles a changing com munity the church must think five to eight years into the future she wants to see stouffville united as a community church music as well as the spoken word are top priorities so also are children i think services should be enjoyable events she says are lady ministers readily accepted today she was asked its been fifty years since the ordination of women rev cawley replies ten percent of the clery are female in my opinion women ministers are in the stouffville area since moving here from toronto in 1920 editors mail not seen or heard dear editor i wish to protest in the strongest possible way the shifting of whitchurchstouffville into the provincial riding of york- durham this is a mistake of catostraphic proportions i cant believe our mpp mr sorbara or our council had no advance notice of this happening neither can i believe they didnt have an opportunity to protest the decision to be linked up with municipalities like brock and uxbridgc is one thing i can live with that but to be shifted from a liberal to a conservative riding is unacceptable like mpp ross stevenson well indeed be a voice crying in the wilderness sincerely william bill duncan manitoba street stouffville
