three flagpeople into service but still couldnt control the flow however in spite of these minor problems the operation went smoothly lloyd said while onlookers complained ab out the heat lloyd was happy with the ninetyplus tempera tures it helped blend the pavement better he explained the work was supposed to be done last fall but the weather was too cold other areas where paving prog rams are planned this summer in clude the public library parking lot and a section of the tenth line another donna takes a few seconds time out for a quick sip of pop during the midafternoon friday temperatures were in the mid- nineties cancel deer hunt to the editor im not a resident in the area of uxbridge township where the deer hunt is prop osed regardless im in terested in the issue and the problems that could result the local council doesnt need the aggravation whats so irritating is the fact theresources ministry canoyerhdfe the wishes of biir electedibfiicialslf- this should not be if this is allowed to happen in this instance it can occur in others as well it borders on dictatorship through your newspaper to mpp ross stevenson im asking that the proposed deer hunt be called off here is an opportunity for mr stevenson to show his true stripesibeing on the opposition side of the legislature is a benefit in this regard he can badger the government all he likes with out fear of having his knuckles rapped sincerely marion christie rr 2 uxbridge music to childrens ears orchard park school teacher neil bennett as he appeared in the recent musical going wcsl- jim thomas by brenda little stouffville from the coffee houses of london to the clas srooms of orchard park public school teacher neil bennett just keeps strumming and humming along and his grade five students love it although neil left the london music scene a couple of years ago to become a teacher he didnt leave his guitar or singing voice behind he still plays and sings only in a different location smysl arid with a different audience neil no longer plays for men and women whom he doesnt know he plays for children who love and appreciate him and he lqvesdbing it i feel good about music and that passes on to the kids he says i want them to come out with a good attitude toward music neil knows that by grade 5 many children are becoming bored with the traditional singalong classes he therefore does what he can to make his classes more interesting and rewarding for his students m i play mainly folk songs and the kids seem to love them says neil theyre really keen the kids dont have to know that what theyre singing are folk songs all they need to know is that its good he adds good music is good music not matter how old siv not only do neils grade 5 and grade 3 music classes get to sing along with him and his guitar but they get to help him write songs i often do impromptu song writing in classf explains neil it helps the children to become rnore involved in music v 7 and involved they are neils wish to keep his students interested in music seems to have come true in the most recent school music al going west neils music students made up about 70 per cent of the chorus in fact his entire home room class except for one youngster who was ill was in it neil attributes a great deal of his success in maintaining the students interest to the particular instrument he uses he feels the guitar is much more effective than the traditional piano because it allows the instructor to get closer to the kids neil first became interested and began playing the guitar when he was 16yearsold i started back in the sixties when folk music was becoming popular he says artists like dilan and the beatles made me think that anyone could play the guitar j neil did not come from a musically inclined family nor did he have any formal instrumental training he is a selftaught guitarist who is lucky enough to have a good singing voice now that london and the coffee houses are in his past neil would like to get back to recording some of his own songs hed also like to write more childrens music recording childrens songs may just be the new musical outlet that neil is currently looking for in fact he hints that in the near future he and fellow teacher david young may just engage in a project involving music arid education ir stouffville will have to wait and see under construction
