late arthur heaton legion service for veteran of two wars tribune march 19 1986 a7 stouffville arthur heaton a veteran of two world twars passed away march 7 he iwas 87 mr heaton was an active mem- ber of the royal canadian legion land the markham veterans association he will be interred in the spring wearing the color guard uniform of the legions richmond hill branch 375 two services were held honor- ing mr heaton at the oneill j funeral home march 8 rae mcfadden conducted a legion service for the 71st battery i fourth division world war i gunner the next day rev cecil tiller pastor of stouffville united church was in charge of the pub- 1 lie service for family and friends mr heaton had been awarded the legions 50year membership pin he was a longstanding mem- i ber of the association in retirement he was still actively involved with both orga nizations helping out whenever possible at richmond hill he i assisted in the raising of funds for new band uniforms as well mr heaton was an avid angler and hunter he loved the outdoors often he was accompa- nied on trips by son roy and close friends at age 10 mr heaton arrived in canada from kent england and began working at the todd mor- den brick yard east york he was employed there for a dollar a day untu volunteering for service after overseas duty during world war i he returned and f worked at valleyview and linden dairies until the outbreak of world war ii again he went over seas serving as a frontiersman on his return from europe he helped annie his wife operate the heaton nursing home he also worked with roy in a paint ing business 15 years annie passed away in 1973 at age 74 several years later mr heaton married violet insley last summer they moved to country place nursing home richmond hill in january mr heaton suffered a fall and frac tured a rib he was taken to york central hospital for treatment and remained there until his death mr heaton is survived by wife violet son roy and family legion raised over 3000 at jamboree stouffville branch 459 of he royal canadian legion raised 312223 for the easter seal society at a timmytammy jamboree sunday tallying up the proceeds from the fund-
