we had to move it out thats why they renovated the empty kennel they had stopped breeding great danes several years ear lier because as helen siad the work got to be too much point ing out she didnt feel right about leaving the dogs for somone else to look after the watlings have sold their work at several locations includ ing the arabian horse show at the canadian national exhibition and a 10day display at canadas wonderland its a lot of work carrying your stuff around john said express ing his reluctance to do more ex hibitions we sold a lot of ceramics but not much glass he said recol lecting the crowd at the arabian show people would rather spend 500 on a saddle than on stained glass looking back john said he would have liked to discover the joy of doing stained glass years earlier but he said hindsight is pointless adding he enjoyed working as an engineer arid he en joys his work now for john and helen watling thats all that real ly matters editors mail rights eroded physician claims to the editor the concern expressed by most of ontarios 7500 family doctors who oppose the peterson governments proposed health care accessibility act deserves special attention unlike many of our physician colleagues most family doctors greater than 95 per cent are not opted but and do not ex tra bill our concern is for our patients and the future of our health care system our fight is for the freedom of those of us liv ing and practicing medicine in a country which once took pride in protecting the rights and respect ing the integrity of individuals such as ourselves over the past decade the costs involved in maintaining a quality health care system have esca lated and the public purse has been stretched beyond its capac ity to afford the resources re- quired rather than admitting its failure to come to grips with this scenario governments have found it politically expedient to create the myth that paying doc tors is the problem as family doctors whose role each day is to act as advocates on behalf of those for whom we care we are asking our elected officials hyundai does itagain trffionethflt makes uncommon sense heres frontwheeldrive a totally discussion which honestly addresses the issue of accessibility but sure ly when we speak of better ac cess we must be speaking about issues such as improving the faci lities and resources available to care for the elderly the disabled the abused and the underpri vileged surely we mustbe refer ring to the need for increased community services improved home care programs and more appropriate utilization of our hos pitals for both inpatient and out patient care surely we must rec ognize that it is in areas such as these that the real problems with accessibilty to health care exist for most family physicians passage of the peterson govern ment health bill will have little or no impact upon our incomes but will have major impact upon our freedom and our rights for most of our patients pas sage of this act will make little or no difference with respect to their access to doctors but it will also do nothing with respect to impro ving their access to other vital health care needs the real problem facing not only doctors but all canadians is not extrabilling it is the ongoing trend towards under- funding and the resulant de terioration of our health care system the real dilemma facing the population of ontario today is not related simply to accessibility to health care it is rather more sig nificantly the question of accessi bility to political wisdom j sincerely calvin gutkin mp
