the dead letter office is our post office dead did brian mulroney expire on a batch of rancid tuna whatever the national tragedy its exemplified by the upsidedown flag at halfmast on the pole at the stouffville po the overturned maple leaf has prompted many comments most of which cant be published in a family newspaper errki pohjolainen editors mail ultimate insult dear sir canada post never ceases to confound me recently stouffville residents were given the dubious benefit of new postal boxes placed throughout the town and for which everyone will indirectly pay now we are to be blessed with approximately 350 different postal codes for the town a different code for every street and one for each i side of the street and four others for the rural routes how is this going to speed up the delivery of a letter from rr 4 to rr 1 my last experience for this was nine days i presume that every business utility company and individual who send out letters and bills on a regular basis will have to have their new postal code directory by their side in order to ensure the address is correct no one can memorize 350 postal codes notepaper bill heads and other communications will have to be reprinted or altered i shouldnt imagine this will be too popular the unsigned letter attached to the new postal code directory states that the reason for this new directory is the fact stouffville is now an urban community and no longer a single postal code area the dis puted benefit of the new boxes would appear to be the villain what was wrong with remaining a rural community and having a code that everyone knew sir a pox on the boxes sincerely adam johnstone rr 1 stouffville p psanother inconvenience of the new code is the fact every indi- vidual and business affected by it will have to inform their friends j relatives and customers of it i wonder what happened to the good old j days when the postal service was operated efficiently without high i tech sorting machines postal codes and everyone had six-day-a- week delivery and received their mail within a reasonable period of 7time skater wins silver medal leslie penny spring street stoufrville won a silver medal in the upper
