re gion last year police chief donald hillock is pleased with the forces yearend statistics in a report to the york regional police commission jan 15 chief hillock explained that excluding assaults the number of other vio lent crimes eg murder sexual assaults and robbery decreased in 1985 however thefts offensive weapons and other criminal code offences increased substantially chief hillock said this is due in part to a larger population and a dramatic increase in the thefts of bicycles up 200 per cent and snowmobiles overall im quite pleased said chief hillock a larger population is one of the reasons for the increase when you havje more people you always have more happening he added that while the number of criminal occurrences is up most are minor offences such as shoplifting the
