12 tribune january 29 1986 mail service not mailboxes said main cause for concern ear sir for the last two or three ireeks i have been reading in our newspaper the pros and cons f mailboxes being erected in va- ious parts of stouffville to me one who enjoys better ural postal delivery where mail s placed directly in the box at the nd of the driveway i find this liscussion rather naive probably most stouffville resi- lents dont really care whether they collect their mail from the new boxes or from the post office anyhow i fail to see how a town postal box is going to increase the efficiency of the postal system or cut down the time taken for the mail to reach you personally it is this time factor concerning delivery from point a to point b that is the real concern of all of us i have two examples of the time lag that occurred to me per sonally in november of last year a card posted from rr 4 stouff ville took one week to reach meat rr i stouffville and that was before the christmas mail rush the second example i have a relative in perth ont and the time it takes a letter to reach there varies from seven to nine days it is approximately 185 miles by road i could walk there myself in ten days and deliver it personally as most of your readers know these two examples are not iso lated cases but are general throughout ontario and not influ enced by time of year or season if we wish a faster delivery of our mail it is to the causes of these delays to which we must direct our efforts and complaints postal codes sorting machines to host concert stouffville an evening of music with jean hammond and david cadogan will be presented monday feb 3 at 8 pm in christ church anglican sunset boule vard stouffville time of the concert is 8 pm tickets 300 are available at the church office 6401461 and barthau jewellers 6404646 proceeds from the program will go to the christ church music fund and many other socalled technic al advances have tended to slow down delivery rather than speed it up managementlabor rela tions would appear to be one of the main reasons for slow delivery what do we get for our 34 cent stamp we have a delivery system that is far slower than wells fargo used to be no mail delivered to your home and a huge deficit that ultimately has to be made good by the taxpayer my own personal opinion of the postal system i hesitate to call it a service is that it is nothing less than a national disgrace sincerely adam johnstone rr 1 stouffville pleads innocent guy paul morin has stated out right i did not kill christine jessop the denial before a packed courtroom monday marked the first time the accused had been called to the stand the 26yearold former town band member was questioned only briefly before a recess was called earlier morins mother de scribed the eight months her son had spent in jail as torture mrs morin said christines death was indeed a tragedy but added this has been a big burden on us too jury recommends emergency response line dicksons hill the implementation of emergency tele phone number 911 was one of seven recommendations made by a corners jury hearing evidence related to the death of craig west a professional landscape gardener the 21yearold was electrocuted aug 7 1985 he had been work ing with gary bouwmeister landscaping of ballantrae pruning trees at 62 dicksons hill road rr 2 markham physicians testified the magnitude of the shock would have killed the worker immediately although ambulance attendant brett laycoe said he felt a weak pulse however the jury ruled mr west died instantly despite this finding members recommended the 911 dialing procedure be put in place the victim was cutting a maple branch when the leafy end fell against a hydro wire and the cut end touched his left hand the jurys other recommendations follow the use of safety belt ropes hard hats and safety shoes should be mandatory for pruning procedures the ministry of labor should prepare and publish regulations to improve safety of employees engaged in landscaping operations ontario hydro commissions should consider marking high power transmission line poles with a safety warning hydro commissions should notify customers in spring or summer billing that pruning services are available for trees within 10 feet of hydro lines the notice should warn customers of the danger to anyone pruning such trees hydro commissions landscapers and homeowners should consult with one another before any work is done on trees within 10 feet of hydro lines old kinsmen never die s 93 main st n markham ont 2940966 is under
