claremont ex change has been raised again in ybur paper jan 15 tribune i jttjink only one perspective of the ssue is being presented ti attended a public meeting on the issue over a year ago and was fcjfsturbed by a few things this irrieeting was organized by and attended by mostly people with hortterm tenure in the claremont area in fact i identi fied many as being tenants of air port designated lands a transient population at best y the meeting promoted as a means of discussing the issue was more an effort to organize a lynchmob with a provincial election campaign going on at the r time the candidates or a repre- sentative were pulled on side like lambs to slaughter by the rhetoric and hyperbole of the leaders of the gang though the province has absolutely no jurisdiction over bell telephone the public in attendance was whipped into a frenzy by the moderator and told to stuff every politicians mail boxes and barnstorm the press to create the illusion of hundreds of people in favor of free calls the increased cost to everyone in the area were dealt with quick ly so as not to let the facts screw up a good meeting from a personal standpoint i would would be be very much in favor of tollfree calls to toronto i do a great deal of business there and i have family there that re sults in large monthly bell bills however most of my friends do not and i will not ask them to sub sidize my personal and business calls by having them pay more than triple their current basic phone bill i am but one of the majority of residents in the claremont area whojdo not support tollfree calls when the burden of in creased basic rates will be dumped on pensioners and other on fixed incomes and on those who will not benefit from ex tended area service sincerely john h marks claremont stouffville a beautiful cake was also provided to mark one of the participants birthday for enter tainment there was hairwashing and cutting it would be a great thing if more people would help i their
