confirmed her candidacy fri day while brian kennedy announced his reelection bid earlier this summer in the nov 12 election uxbridge twp will receive representation from one public school trustee instead of heather beveridge the present two the twp of scugog will move up from one to two trustees be cause its equalized assessment has edged ahead of ux bridge in a prepared news release mrs bevendge said that representation is an important issue even more so now that uxbridge has only one board member the representa tion of uxbridge twp at the regional level must be strong and persistent she said with the de velopment of all of durham the press ure for increased funds and facilities in the southern por tion of the region continues to over whelm the funds available a strong voice and active fulltime repre- sentation is re quired and because of the provinces ex isting school financ ing shortage she said extension of separate school funding is not in the best interest of students catholic or public or tax payers other election issues according to the 14year ox bridge twp resi dent centre around facilities planning and access to appropriate prog ramming for all loc al students the fiveyear board veteran said she has been con cerned with the planning and maintenance of the physical facilities in all areas of the township the uxbridge facilities plan not only reflects the needs of the stu dents of uxbridge twp but it prepares them for the future of an expanding community she stated mr kennedy said he opposes trustee beveridge on the matter of trustee pay increases be lieving that the re cent 11 per cent sal ary hike was just too high the 46yearold st johns school employee feels another major issue is emmersion french he the programs future is uncertain due to dwindling enrol ment numbers in certain parts of the region mr kennedy a re- sident on main street has served on the school board for five years and before that chaired parks and recrea tion candidate will try again uxbridge ian ball who ran unsuccessfully for the mayoralty of uxbridge township when he was just 19 will attempt to win a seat on council in ward 4 mr ballnow 24 made his decision after ian morrison in ward 5 mr ball remains ea ger to become in volved in the level of government he de scribes as closest to the people the fact that ward 4 is his home riding was another determining factor in his election bid according to the balsam street resi dent he views public involvement as an essential ingredient in the civic govern ment process and will be stressing that as voters go to the polls nov 12 if you want to be satisfied in the urban environment where you live you should have input into the growth or change in that area mr ball said i think everybody should have some say in the planning process and he feels more participation can be generated by in creased advertising of official public meetings to allow input from more ratepayers another idea is to have rotating coun- cil meetings so that the townships hamlets dont feel left out he said the sessions could be staged through- out the municipality in order to generate more widespread interest the candidate would also like to see the twp in crease some densi ties in the downtown area to create addi tional apartment space theres room in the town to accomo date more people yet still make it live able he clairiied a
