were plagued with penalties that let the opposition take an early twogoal lead and it wasnt until the third frame that they managed to get on the board geoff smith started the clippers off with a pass from the point lindsay haylow banging it home from the slot two minutes later haylow slipped the puck back to smith who fired the puck high for phil pridham to deflect it into the net unfortunately the com eback was short lived oak ville piled on the pressure for two more and a 42 win lindsay haylow was voted mvp in this one etobicoke proved far too powerful for the clippers in game two getting oh the board first with a high shot over goalie jason brown smith tied it up on an un assisted effort but from there on in the clippers just couldnt find the range de spite some heroic saves by brown notably a spectacu lar glove save on a twoman rush oakville took the play into the clipper end to come away with an 81 win clipper mvp was geoof smith the novice squad con tinue playoff action this out the recent decision to share house league duties with uxbridge has brought a blast from exfounder member casey van maris and a counter volley from incumbent presi dent tom morton the rights and wrongs of the situation are not mine to pass judgement on however both sides have a point though i do lean in favour of letting uxbridge join forces in operating the house league and letting the wssc get on with what it does best producing star- quality teams back when casey was president of the wssc we had a thriving house league everyone well nearly every one on the executive was busy all week coaching teams but since then things have changed the last two meetings of the soccer club produced no more than sixteen people including the executive so who is going to do all the coaching morton does have a point there is no hardship in travelling to st johns college and the facilities there are far superior to anything we have here it isnt as if there is much of an alternative for the kids to get the whole squabble into perspective soccer players and parents should know the facts surrounding the current decision to amalgamate with uxbridge in 1984 the wssc had only three house league teams r all the others played either minisoccer or competitive- ly in the region of york the atom boys won bothjeague and playoffs that year which prompted a directive to coach tom morton dont come back ofthe three mixed mosquito and peewee girls teams playing in a socalled house league- two came from king city not an overabundance of opposition there the peewee boys learned little during the 84 season playing most of their games against bradford and king city the dearth of house league competition not to mention the fact that you are not welcome if too com petitive obviously prompted our clubs executive to findaway tbgive the players mdre ihterestliig opp8s tion better facilities and less travelling also a better afmosphere inawhich to play i amalgamating with uxbridge will do just that ironically both king city and bradford are contem plating entering their house league teams in the region of york c division which would effectively cut off bur players from further competition unless of course they too decided to join the region i on top of all this it seems that our soccer club might have to play some of their home games at pickering college newmarket having heard of our problems we dont have a sufficient number of regulation size fields to host competitive teams they have kindly offered to help us out years of indifference by the town has not helped the soccer cause here in stouffviue mostly the club has had to do everything themselves after nine years you would have thought they would have had a clubhouse and proper fields but no they are as far away now as they ever were mind you 25000 of taxpayers money to move a so called century house which in reality was only fit for burning gives some idea of this towns crazy priorities nv excellent hockey being accustomed to playerbashing and stick- breaking its called junior c hockey 1 was pleasant ly surprised with the quality of fare dished up in the recent ahl selectsintermediate game xne gets so used to punchups refereebaiting and lousy exhibi tions of bad sportsmanship good hockey is becoming but a fond memory so it comes as a bit of a surprise when a first class game is stuck under your nose in fact you have difficulty recognizing it hats off to the intermediate squad for giving us a most exciting and entertaining evening of hockey also to the selects for giving up their time to raise funds for the bantam and intermediate teams not to mention playing a super game the ingredients for drawing a crowd are obvious local talent an early start around 715 pm and players who can actually play hockey put them all together and the crowd will come in droves frankly i cant wait for the rematch fame atoms win 3 of 4 the fame international atom clippers undertook a four game schedule last week their hectic timet able started off with a 41 loss against a tough cobourg team the clipper sole effort coming from david spoorenberg however on friday they travelled to port perry and handed their hosts a 31 loss port perry were first on the board and it wasnt un til the middle frame that darrin zeller tied it up for the clippers assist to jason whitcbrcad tim lavcil and david caramanico wrap ped it up for the clippers in the third period assists to whitcbread and brandon pridham a big win at bowmanvillc on saturday saw the clip pers blank their hosts 40 the shutout went to shawn wilson
