plaza noise irritating tribune sept 12 1984 b3 stouffville the high level of noise at the rear of the ap food store is creating problems for homeowners in the area of westlawn crescent and rupert avenue kevin mcwhinney a resident at 50 west- lawn crescent appeared before the towns planning advisory committee sept 5 to formally voice the neighbor hoods concerns delivery trucks at the rear of the ap store create a serious noise problem day and night if r wcwhinney told committee members he said noise caused by vehi cles diesel engines and refrigeration units are most bothersome during late evening hours neighbors are also disturbed by the general sounds of work such as the crashing of skids he said trucks pull into the supermarkets load ing docks located directly across from the homes almost every weekday around mid night and thursdays from 2 to 4 am as well mr wcwhinney said if youre not asleep by the time the trucks arrive the noise keeps you up for the rest of the night he explained its a continuing problem the homeowner noted adding that planned ap expansion could make matters worse mr mcwhinney recently polled his neighbors and feels the results confirm that people want something done relocation of the loading bays to the southwest corner of the property was dis cussed as one possible solution but it was agreed such a move would undoubtedly prove too costly and a 10foot sound wall only serves to direct the noise toward the homes mr mcwhinney said he feels the cheapest solution to the problem would be to have drivers turn off their engines and possibly the refrigera tion motors while unloading deserves apology dear sir j im writing you with respect to an article in the tri- twneissue of aug 22 under the heading teen booze party enflames resi dents first a correc tion very few teenagers attended the ages ranged from 19 to 55 as for the orgy whoever provided this in formation was bad ly mistaken it was too cold to take your coat off let alone your clothes tents were set up in the backyard for the convenience of guests mr austin felt he would rather have people stay overnight than drink and drive which in my opin ion was the smart thing to do in addi tion to providing overnight accom modation there was an enjoyable beef barbecue and hay rides it was not just a drinking party everyone stood around and enjoyed the music those who wished danced it was a party enjoyed by all who attended mr and mrs austin host such a gathering once a year its too bad these en- flamed residents cant appreciate a good time for the younger generation i feel mr austin should be com mended for provid ing the facilities and the entertainment for such a large group of people i missed seeing you at the party i would assume you were there because i wouldnt want to think the article you published was merely heresay if such was the case dont you think mr and mrs austin de serve an apology i for one feel they do and im not alone in this sincerely cathy smith
