b2 tribune july 4 1984 member of claremont ball club injured at tourney by sandra redshaw claremont the community was relieved to hear that claremont baseball player gary mcmullen is all right following a weekend accident in kingston the 18yearold athlete was struck on the side of his head with a baseball while warming up with his claremont legion blues club on saturday the team was in kings ton to take part in a canada day weekend tourna ment gary was apparently not aware of the throw and was knocked unconscious by the impact he was taken to hospital for a full examination but was not serious ly injured gary was able to return to the park and watch his team mates complete the tournament facial swelling and a fat lip were the only linger ing traces of the mishap gary is now re covering at home in claremont feeling fortunate to have escaped a more se vere injury the fifth year of vacation bible school at claremont united church was a great success eightyfive children attended the five- day session closing ceremonies were held thursday even ing with each class contributing by singing and staging a skit at the conclu sion refreshments were served in the church basement at this time parents had the opportunity to inspect all the crafts that the chil dren had made a dont lug a vacuum plug it in big thank you to all teachers helpers babysitters and pated in the stouff ville tournament over the weekend the local entry lost their first game on friday won the next two then were eliminated in their fourth contest a number of claremont fans were on hand to sup port the bricks balloons were re leased at the conclu sion of bible school on friday june 29 its hoped that word will soon be re ceived indicating how far they travelled school is now out the birth day celebration of her great grandson christopher car ruthers on sunday thelma and gord taylor of orillia were in town on the weekend visitng with family and friends ray newton bids farewell to uss ray newton is leaving his familiar surround ings at uxbridge secondary school after serving on staff for the past 27 years the respected educa tor has made a major contribution in both academic
