tween an uxbridge contrac tor and the townships planning and development committee after some com mittee members criticized him for illegally building an extension to his business harvey acton owner of the victoria drive construc tion business met with the committee thursday night in a closed meeting to re hash the issue of whether or ivot he had a building permit at a planning meeting previous to thursday re gional councillor gerri- lynn oconnor blasted planning chairman sandy ewen for allowing mr acton to build an extension without a building permit and signed site plan agree ment if it wasnt harvey acton you ewen would be just as upset as everyone else oconnor told ewen we wouldnt except this from anyone else in a phone interview af ter the first meeting mr acton explained he had appeared before the com mittee to discuss the exten- sion and they said wecould just go ahead and get started following thursday nights closed session oconnor issued a press re lease which outlined the events of the meeting the release stated at the special meeting com mittee members learned that mr acton had submit ted his copy of the proposed site plan agreement along with a cheque to cover the cost of the building permit members of the planning committee did not see this signed agreement nor were they aware of the cheque mr acton told the tri bune the site plan agree ment which the committee accepted thursday was the same site plan he previously submitted everythings the same as the original site plan agreement i signed another area which raised concern was the appearance of the outside property we have one hell of a mess oconnor stated during the first planning meeting the press release stated that mr acton agreed to plant six foot trees along the property line to the west and remove two present trailers off the site it also stated he would clean up the present debris and keep stockpiling of top soil and sand to a minimum according to oconnor an additional agreement has been issued between the township and mr acton to increase the parking space on the south side of the building to allow more room for his vehicles thats agreeable mr acton told the tribune however he said those par ticular requests were what he originally agreed to do in the first agreement he said the clean up should be completed by june 1 the release concluded all committee members were in favor of the agree ments group favors testing claremont the durham regional works committee has supported a recommendation request ing the ministry of the en vironment moe to install test drill wells in claremont according to regional councillor norah stoner the committee will ask the region to support their re commendation at their next meeting in a meeting held in february a representative from geoenviron limited stated certain test drilling programs should be con ducted if the moe were con sidering alternatives like private wells or a commun al system it was suggested three or four drilled your tirm when viewed in the context of the newspaper report referred to if any reader has any doubts about the professional and moral conduct of the company we will be pleased to re spond to any questions in this respect in a letter tostoner january 27 mr fowle stated the last two paragraphs of this article in our view are potential ly very damaging to us as they suggest we have conducted ourselves in an improper and unprofessional manner it is necessary for us to ask for a statement to be made publicly to rectify the damage caused to our reputation onfebruary 8 stoner responded in a letter by saying i do not believe anything i said could in any way damage your firm i do not think the conclusions you draw from the last two paragraphs of the article are correct as a matter of fact i believe your company has always done work of the highest professional quality and i have proven my high regard for simcoe by recommending your firm to private individuals within the town of toronto when be was 11yearsold and attended north toronto col legiate he later moved from toronto to greenwood and then to manitoulin island before he finally set tled in claremont with his wife kathleen whom he married june 13 1931 after arriving in claremont mr hayward a self- employed accountant became quite involved in the united coop he also ran and operated the local credit union for approximately seven years outside of the business world he found enjoyment in other activities most of these activities involved returning to nature where he participated in hunt ing ashing and trapshooting mr hayward a jehovah witness was cremated march 9 a memorial service was held march 10 at kingdom hall in stouffville by gary kairies he is survived by his wife kathleen and daugh ters
