trustees approved the follow ing as the most im mediate needs of the system for the 1984 calendar year language de velopment imple mentation of osis french immersion computer tech nology diagnostic resource teacher and human rights these priorities were established by an7administrative council during aj twoday planning session in august earlevans in formation off icer for the board ex plained were identified in context with both the politic al and economical climate of the board these are the most pressing needs of the system and what we as a board will put most of our efforts into said mr evans he added that in most cases a com mittee will be formed with the re sponsibility of im plementing or ful filling the needs of a priority during the meet ing board members also received a re- port showing the de gree to which the 198283 priorities were achieved it was reported that the system re sponded favourably to these objectives which included programs for excep- tional children family lifesex edu cation school bus safety budget pro cess review and re vision of inservice professional de velopment revision of supervisory pro cess and principal development and evaluation while well be now be focusing our efforts on the 1984 priorities this doesnt mean that well forget about the others mr evans noted i a brief synopsis of the 1984 priorities follows language de velopment k13 a committee will be formed to examine methods by which all teachers re gardless of grade or subject can focus op the advancement of language skills the teachingof reading increased notemaking use of libraries and per sonal reading and writing will be emphasized implementation of osis ontario schools intermedi ate and senior dm- sionss isa ministry of education docu- v ment expected soon which will cover the program require ments for grade 7 and 8 plus the re quirements for the ontario secondary school diploma the implementa tion of this docu ment will bea major undertaking for the york region board of education french immer sion the purpose of establishing this as a priority is to prepare for the fu ture growth of this program a com mittee of trustees staff and teachers will plan and make recommendations for the continuous development of the french immersion program in york region computer tech nology in 1984 the york region board will attempt to con solidate its planning efforts to ensure effective imple mentation of com puter technology into all aspects of the system diagnostic re source teacher during the 198283 review of the boards special education multi- year plan an in creased emphasis was placed upon the role of the diagnos tic and resource teacher dart the change in emphasis will result in fewer segregated classes and more in tegration of pupils into
