markham district high school was named miss markham fair 83 on saturday night first runner up was rose garlatti left and second runner up was kelly winni- toy thirteen girls entered the contest this year jim thomas darlene murray chosen miss markham fair 83 markham nerves and tension gave way to tears of joy for darlene murray when she was crowned miss markham fair 1983 at saturday nights pageant and dance the 18yearold high school student recalls thinking theregoes one chance there goes two chances as the two runnersup were announced 4and when her own namewas caueddarlencthought she was hearing things she wiped the tears from her eyes pulled herself together so shewouldnt look like a fool and gave an acceptance speech i think i said thank you she said in an interview this week pm of the fair when shell rub shoulders with the likes of federal agriculture minister jiugene whelan shell also be handing out prize ribbons during the four- day day fair she enjoys reading sidney sheldons ier favorite music bike riding and going for after dinner walks with her mother src aspires to be a journalist and is cur rently- honing her skills as the economist and suns markham a success stouffville parti cipants were off and run ning in trie 1983 terry fox run last weekend with a tot al of 7567 being raised for the stouffville branch of the canadian cancer society there donald anderson 72 of 92 stewart st stouff ville and for mr anderson age didnt make any differ ence i did excellent and i had a very good time he said i ran part of the way trying to catch up to a friend then i walked about half way mr anderson started the six mile course at approx imately 1 pm and when he finished he had raised 44525 however this race wasnt his first because he ran in the 1982 terry fox run which was also six miles long i think its a good cause and i like engaging in it i hope to run it all next year he explained its the type of thing that should grow each year when asked potato contest sstouffville the tribunes big potato con- test is off and running for another year although the hot dry summer has not been condu cive to growing big potatos the tribune is still spon claremont stouffville a spe cial meeting held tuesday night at latcham gallery brought together seven of whitchurchstouffvilles various services clubs to discuss fundraising for the new stouffvillc recreation complex there was a very posi tive response at the meet ing and it is hoped that 50000 for the complex can be raised from the different service clubs another meeting with community clubs will be held on friday scpt23 at 730 pm at the stouffvillc library and on thursday oct 6 there will be a meet- ing at the library for the different sports clubs some of the fundraising plans include golf shirts selling for 15 and a wall of fame is being built bricks will be on sale to individuals or families for 250 and the buyers name will be en graved on the bricks the bricks will then be used in the building of the recrea tion centre also planned to raise money is a householder campaign each homeow ner will be asked to donate 100 for the centre the committees hope to raise 200000 for the the near future fixed for free goodwood the goodwood cemetery board has received an offer they cant refuse reg tomkinson owner and operator of the ux bridge memorial company has offered his free services to rebuild and fix approx imately 30 gravestones which were vandalised last weekat the goodwood cemetery mr tomkinson started the project monday morn ing and he said it would probably take a couple of days and about co hours of labor to complete but once finished the gravestones would be readable and us able when he heard about the cemetery he phoned harry woodland who is a member of the goodwood cemetery board mr tomkinson said by repairing the gravestones he was doing a community thing he has been in the busi ness for about 40 years and he was disturbed when he heard of the act of vandal ism he explained that many of the destroyed gravestones were irreplace able and it was important to salvage them as best he could he said gravestones are of historic value because many people said that she grabbed the shotgun and a struggle ensued as she fell backward the gun fired she told the court stating that she was scared ms kricfalusi said she only wanted to take the gun away from mr scott so that he would calm down and come to his senses she grabbed the gun so he would not hurt anyone or hurt himself she testified despite suggestions that she deliberately pointed the gun at mrs scott ms kric- fulasi insisted that she didnt shoot him in previous testimony a friendpf the accused womanolivia trudel- also of musselmans lake said that ms kricfalusi came to her house around 3 am on the day of mr scotts death the woman had blood on her hands and was crying i blew him away ms trudel testified according to ms trudel a distraught ms kricfalusi said there had been an acci dent when mr scott was leaving the apartment with a loaded shotgun he vowed to shoot aman he had had a fight with the previous evening ms kricfalusi told her friend that she had attemp ted to stop him he was shot and she had dragged him into the apartment so he wouldnt get cold edward anderson a firearms expert told the court that the shot was fired from five to seven feet away he added that there was no powder residue found on the dead mans clo thing another witness robert bateman an 18yearold man who worked for mr scott said that he had seen ms kricfalusi threaten mr scott with a knife two days prior to the-shootingcv- he testified that the woman had waved a butch er knife and threatened to kill mr scott another witness daniel bangay 24 said that ms kricfalusi had threatened to kill mr scott an hour prior to the shooting the dead mans father murray scott testified that both ms kricfalusi and his son had a drinking prob lem and wept when his sons bloodstained clothes were entered as
