he admitted that chosing the team would hot be easy royal coach johannes- sen was noncommittal re garding his prospective lineup for the season they tend to be a bit lazy this early in the year he observed however his team did put in a lot of hard work in their exhibition game against agincourt on sunday afternoon tying the game 11 with just minutes left to play the goal an opportunist effort never did i think that my criticism of council lor tom wood who are the buttermakers bring forth such ire from the citizenry my intent in making the remark was not to belittle the gentleman in question but to bring home the fact that some members of our council are unaware of which side is up or for that matter down in what constitutes our sporting fraternity i still main tain that his was a stupid question and quite un- ecessary were he to find the time to get out and about and mix with us peasants other than at election time of course as to whether readers know of the buttermak ers matters not a whit and i dont suppose the team themselves give a damn either so what is all the noise about let ters saying i dont know who the butter- makers are even a let ter demandingan apolor gy to the ward 2electo rate he must be joking and everyone getting their knickers in a right old twist over what i im- agined to be an in nocuous observation i honestly feel that anyone involved in plan ning our new sports com- plex and getting an honorarium of around 8000 a year too should know after all if you are involved in spending millions of dol lars of the taxpayers money in building a sports complex and get ting paid for it into the bargain surely then you should at least have a nodding acquaintance with the people who are going to use it pertinent profits i have been aware for some time that there is a creeping tendency for certain members of council and the recrea tion committee to want to know how much money certain organiza tions make or expect to make when they rent a public hall the question has arisen more than once and certainly de serves commenting on the truth is its none of their business orga nizations when asked would do well to bear it in mind thank you to all intents and pur poses the hockey season is at an end this week arrives a letter from the coconvenors of the very busy house league dave stronach and alhachey thanking everyone for their sup port after one of the busiest seasons ever anyone who has wit nessed the amount of effort these two men put into organizing the weekly schedule cannot help but be impressed by their dedication with out such volunteers we would be in a very sorry state indeed strange thpugh i should have thought letters of thanks would be flowing in from the parents anyway on behalf of everyone a big thanks to them both bad timing the amateur hockey league will have to look a little more closely at next years playoff sche iduleitseemsa number of people are upset par ticularly the revted creen who has a number of players and their families in his congrega tion although a great sup porter of the ahl i must admit that having the playoffs on easter sunday was bad sche duling it seems there were more players and families at the arena that morning than were in church- knowing the league as i do i feel sure that they will give the calender closer scrutiny next year two arenas the kinsmen club have made recommendations for the immediate inclu sion of two ice pads at the new arena complex backing their recom mendation to the steer ing committee are reams of facts and fi gures resulting from a survey of residents and an indepth study of ice- time requirements hopefully seeing as there is so much technic al expertise available for free everyone con cerned will pay heed and maintain an open mind convenors thank volunteer help annual meeting the annual general meeting of the girls hockey association will be held at latcham hall on april 24 at 7 pm all are welcome and a good turnout of interested persons would be appreciated stouffvilles kinsmen club in reply to the recrear tion committees request for partisan and non partisan input into the new arena complex plan made the following recommenda tions to the steering com mittee on monday april 11 a a two- rink arena is re quired as there is a present shortage of icetime b that phase one of the project encompassing a two rink arena as well as i services and landscaping for the complete project could be done for a cost of under 2 million and that a completion date of decem ber 31 1983 is feasible c that it is essential to v establish a group of technic- al advisors and a committee to spearhead fundraising highlights of the report were surprising showing 77 per cent of people inter viewed were in favor of a two rink concept while most favoured going ahead with the complete complex discussion with town clubs indicated that close to 80 per cent of the 7200 hours of icetime available could be used now further poten tial business coming from people unable to obtain ice- time in aurora uxbridge and markham proposals from two con tractors both specializing in building arenas over 100 built between them indi cated that the two rinks along with 3000 sqfeet of lobby ten dressing rooms and a seating capacity of over 800 could be erected within the time frame for under 2 million the survey carried out by volunteer kinsmen from the markham west hill pickering don valley richmond hill and stouff ville clubs surveyed 147 homes in the whitchurch- stouffville area and found that 70 per cent favoured support of both the proposed complex and new stouffvil- lemarkham hospital whereas 17 per cent sup ported just the hospital and 7 per cent the complex alone soccer tryouts further tryouts and practices for places on the boys
