recreation com- ittee in place though i have no doubt there will be rumb lings of discontent from van- dorf they seem to have no champion to represent their very active and lively little community having cut the number of recommended members from twelve to nine the work load should prove formid able i have no doubt that there will be a large number of representations made by various bodies throughout the coming year everyone seems to have an axe to grind personally i always felt that the old recreation com mittee was weighted in favor of hockey and ball looking at the new list i think the for mat remains the same the minor groundswell caused by disagreement be tween two leading lights in oldtimer hockey circles has died down and i have heard no more of the socalled threat to take over prime icetime a storm in a teacup i hope so i cannot help but comment on our minor house league hockey coaches during the last few months i have had the pleasure of talking to quite a number of them for the tribunes coach of the week series and without fail have been impressed by their unfailing sense of humor and dedication to their small charges it seems not so long ago that we were becoming dismayed at the quality of our minor coaches not any longer though who is the person re sponsible for setting prices at the arena snack bar i feel incensed by having to pay 50 cents for a miserably small cup of coffee or tea when most restaurants and snack bars are still selling for 40 to 45 cents perhaps a jiffy snacktruck parked outside would be the answer some indication of public priorities as set down by previous councils is re flected in the expenditure of 20000 on library booksdur- ing the last fiscal year this works out at about one new book per year for every ten persons pretty disgraceful when you consider we spend around 40000 subsidizing icetime obviously it is more important to shoot a puck than read a book a pertinent question re garding conflict of interest in public affairs springs to mind when i read a letter from the markham- stouffville hospital building fund the letter signed by deputy chairman keith sutherland informs various service clubs in the area that the hospital committee is going ahead with a cam paign to raise 5 million in- pledges from various com munities in the area includ ing whitchurchstouffville harking back to april of 81 i remember
