of their semifinal series at the arena on saturday evening opening the scoring in the first period ken burrows picked up his first of two markers on a setup by bill hutchison who was well marked by series three players in front of the huntsville net burrows scored with a shot along the ice which seemed to be the only way to beat the sharp huntsville goalie huntsville tied the score seconds before the teams went off the ice mike feasby opened the scoring two minutes into the second period on burrows pass however hunts- ville replied with two goals within 30 seconds at the ten minute mark to take the lead 32 it looked like stouff ville was- in trouble until mike feasby scored from shawn leonard and bill hutchison followed by two more quick goals just 27 seconds apart the goals and assists came from darryl brown and ken burrows on a reverse play for a 53 lead i huntsville came back to score early in the final frame and tighten- the game darryl brown who played a strong game for stouffville clinched the victory with five mimittx left on a nice passingplay by brent brown and shawn leonard a series of penalties left both teams with only three skaters for the remaining four minutes bfplay thanks to the exceptional puck- handling ability of dave fodder who controlled the play in the final minutes huntsville were unable to mount an effective attack tonightrmarch 24 is the all age groups within the community the formation of a six team bantam league has been- announced by rick hollin also the expansion of last years senior league to eight teams no doubt now that spring is officially here there are many who are thinking summer sports if so then i would like to point out th a t soccer registrations fare still beingraccepted at the stouffville hobbycraft and toy centre success square with the provision that all registrations are sub ject to the formation of a team before the league deadline as all schools are closed for the mid- march break there will be no indoor will hold their annual meeting on monday april 5 at 830 pm at latcham hall in order to make plans for a successful 198182 season anyone interested in girls hockey should attend oldtimers host oshawa stouffville stouffvilles oldtimer clipper hockey team face oshawa this satur day evening march 27th with a game at the arena at 700 pm the oldtimer lineup will be identical to the one entered in the recent world cup series f representing stouffville high school in the recent york county northsouth allstar basketball games were 1 to r ross dube tim yeomans claude maillet and dave elliot jim holt games played at thornhill four sdss athletes join allstar teams stouffville last week four boys from stouffville district high school took part in the annua north vs 1 south allstar basket ball games held at thornhill high school the midget game was a dose exciting affair as the powerful southerners threatened to swamp their op ponents however with less than four minutes to play the north came back to tie the score unfortunately the greater height of- the southerners prevailed and they went on to win 5111 dave elliot of sdss scored six points on- three of four shots and also played a strong defensive game coaching the midget team this season was principal mike muir phys ed teacher wayne nugent was this years junior basketball coach at sdss and he chose cocaptain tim yeomans to represent the team at the allstar games tim was held scoreless during the game put put in a strong defensive performance and excellent rebound ing the junior allstar squad went down 4941 dave connell phys ed department head sent two of this years senior squad to represent sdss in the senior game they were guard claude maillet for the second straight year and ross dube although the southerners were again victorious this time 66- 53 the stouffville duo acquitted themselves well ross dube got his act together in the second half and con tributed six points and several rebounds to the northern cause claude maillet played a strong game as bailhandler and added most points 10 for his team top scores in foul ball contest top scorers in the foul ball contest held at sdss recently are back row 1 to r steelers atom hockey team visited niagara falls last weekend going on to port- colbourne where they won the a championship title- in the golden puck tour nament in their first game on saturday morning against six nations they were forced to play shorthanded when one of the players chris taylor came down with flu tonio trentadue opened the scoring when he rapped in aaron mcwilliams rebound craig stronach made it 20 on a play by brad macdohald- and brad tiley before their opponents gotjonfthe board in the final frame danny larmers empty net goal ensured the win emerging from their battle with acton with a 51 win the steelers met wainfleet on the sunday morning for the championship title unfortunately prior to the game many of the steelers were hit with flu among them goaltender scotty evans kevin francis was given the unen viable job of replacements however although below par most of the team dressed for the game wainfleet opened the scoring with the steelers replying early in the second period when kevin blacktopp slipped in jamie campbells pass from behind thenet minutes laterjchris taylor popped in brad tileys rebound to give them the lead- a two goal cushion by tiley made things safe until wainfleet put on the pressure and closed the gap 32 with less than two minutes left to play keith piette tallied a timely- markerifrom a mcwiiliamsusnd stronach to take the title as substitute goalie kevin francis did a super job blake blasts six cobourg next stouffville returning to bowman- ville on monday evening the steelers atom hockey team finally managed to dispose of bowmanville 10 but only just the tightly fought game was decided in the second period when chris taylor deflected in brad tileys shot kevin francis was also on the assist the steelers now face cobourg in the final first game is tomorrow thursday- at cobourg at 800 pm home games will be held on wed march 31 and fri april 2 at 800 pm stouffville repeating last weeks performance for the girls lions
