the evening joyce mclean of pickering is the guest speaker with music by the myers family of ml zion carol goodwin and richard thorley received many beautiful gifts at a shower sept 14 in the jean gray will long remember their golden wedding anniversary the milestone was celebrated with an open house at myrtle united church many attended some from a distance george gray and jean wright were married a halfcentury ago in green river baptist church rev robert w packer officiated because their marriage was the first solemnized there the newlyweds were presented with a lovely bible that they treasure very much following the ceremony the happy couple set out for kingston and points east in georges fire enginered 1926 chevrolet touring it was a pretty fancy car in those days he remembers on their return a surprise reception was in readiness at the brides home arranged by relatives and friends in 1935 mr and mrs gray moved to a farm in cherrywood then to whitevale and after that to the rowbotham farm on the 7th concession of pickering in 1948 jean returned home when she and her husband purchased her fathers property on the altona road thats where she was born they remained there until their retirement in 1973 to a lovely home south of myrtle at rr 1 brooklin george and jean are proud of their family that includes one son ted at rr 1 manilla and three years ago that mrs fred greenfield david street markham first learned she had cancer she underwent surgery an operation that doctors hoped would prove successful however the problem flared up again in 1969 necessitating further treatment and again twb years ago i during all this time she never complained a display of courage that won her the admiration of a wide circle of friends mrs greenfield passed away at home sept 9 she was 73 born at maple in the twp of king june 5 1908 catherine johnson later married fred greenfield march 27 1937 they lived at ringwood 1v4 years then moved to main street markham for a short while before taking up residence on david street where theyve been for the past 41 years mrs greenfield was an active member in the congregation of grace anglican church she also enjoyed the fellowship of quilting bees and euchres in the church hall for several years she was the mt joy news correspondent for the markham economist and sun surviving besides her husband are son and daughterinlaw robert and irene greenfield newmarket daughter and soninlaw ann and ardon maschke of blackstock three grandchildren donna and wayne greenfield and esther maschke and two sisters mrs elizabeth highstead of ridgetown and verna mrs earl hisey of barrie she was predeceased by two sisters edith and doris rev thomas greene conducted the service sept 12 from grace anglican church assisted by rev james brown with interment grace anglican cemetery the pallbearers were richard greenfield edwin greenfield frank handy jim thew grant hisey and richard preston mrs roy fockler christian lady vivian this community was sad dened recently by the passing of mrs roy fockler of vivian mrs fockler the former mildred clark was one of five children born to albert and myrtle clark ninth line north of churchill since their marriage in 1945 mildred and roy have lived at vivian early in life mildred put her trust in her lord and saviour jesus christ she was deeply devoted to her j family her friends and her church although seldom free from pain and suffering she patiently and faithfully served her family and community the esteem held for her by neigh bors and friends was evident in the large number attending the memorial service in stouffville baptist church the beautiful floral tributes and the more than 150 gideon bibles placed in her name rev donald payne was in charge of the funeral with interment churchill cemetery the pall bearers were david francis tom card earl grose roy flewell preston hockley and henry harrison besides her husband she leaves two sons
