4 the tribune thursday september 17 181 editors mail i new plan just marvellous vandorf forgotten dear mr thomas the fullpage ad vertisement in your paper sept 10 re the draft culture and recreation master plan was most revealing and interesting it would appear that nothing has been omitted with one exception i noticed no not just dots on the map dear editor i read the culture and recreation master plan recommendations as printed in the sept 10 tribune very carefully one must to understand the magnitude of the program the far- reaching proposals almost boggles the mind of the ordinary layman because i consider myself very much a layman i was looking for something more with respect to smaller rural hamlets in the town where at present theres really nothing of a recreational nature i speak specifically of pineorchardcedar valley vivian bethesda bloomington musselmans lake ringwood and wesley corners i realize these places are small compared to say ballantrae and stouff vule but there are still people including teenagers residing there who should not be ignored this plan as i understand it is looking several years into the future id like to think that the above- mentioned communities have a future i fear they will not unless theyre recognized for more than mere dots on a municipal map sincerely mildred mcguire rr 3 newmarket dear editor the proposal that hopefully will see the construction of a recreation complex in our town is the best news in years whitchurch stouffville in my opinion needs a challenge and we the people need to be challenged nothing majors been ac complished here in a long time not since the demise of our benefactor arthur latcham and we can hardly take the credit for those ac complishments the other big plus in my opinion is the recommendation that council hire a recreation director here this is something thats been talked about for years lets hope something will now be done about it there are other positive points i could mention but the above two are in my opinion most important sincerely janet myles albert street stouffville y smoke york region york region family ys widely acclaimed y smoke program is to be offered again this fall 20 proposals whatsoever for the community park at vandorf theres mention of stouffville ballantrae and lemonville but little or nothing about van dorf surely facilities arent so complete here that something anything couldnt have been proposed for the future after all i presume the people of vandorf will be helping to pay for im provements in other centres so why not something that will also benefit this area i see some mention about a proposed book mobile and activities maybe for teens but thats all surely vandorf deserves a bigger piece of the pie i hope residents here will attend the meeting thursday to night and air their complaints in this regard sincerely fred vandolder rr 1 gormley dear mr thomas after reading the proposals for a third time as set out in the culture and recreation master plan im prompted to make comment concerning the goals put forward as recommendations its the most farsighted approach our town has had since my coming here i think its mar vellous only one thing bothers me and that is that such a massive study was required to tell us what the council or some body in authority should have known all along for example we need a recreation director an indoor pool is a necessity the old arena has outlived its usefulness a segment of young people are neglected more use should be made of latcham hall our arena new or old should be open and operating all year round our town band needs a place to play we need a community centre there are too many individual boards and committees and that town ball diamonds and soccer fields be improved and or expanded there are other recommendations too but the ones that ive- listed have been ad vocated by a number of us and your newspaper on several occasions its been my honest opinion that whit- churchstouffville needs a recreational leader an individual who can pull individual persons organizations and communities together what about the money dear mr thorns with respect to the culture and recreation plan for whitchurch- stouffvule i have one question that i suppose will be answered at any one of the public meetings however im wondering why no mention was made of cost in last weeks ad undoubtedly this is a factor that will be on many peoples minds admittedly its difficult to come up with exact figures on swimming pools teen centres arenas etc but surely a ball park estimate is available in no way am i criticizing the proposal a recreation centre in fact i think the ideas fantastic however before we get carried away i feel we should have something on paper as to dollars and cents maybe with our tax base we cant support any of these recommendations and maybe we can more cost facts are required sincerely howard ingram stouffville rr 3 agreed it will be a tremendous task because be or she must start from scratch but not an in surmountable problem for one who enjoys a challenge to mr sutherland and his committee my congratulations at long last weve got something down on paper that will serve as a guide to getting something going its a challenge to au of us including members of council thanks for allowing me space to air my views sincerely helen davidge rr2
