heard of such a thing happening in this community before i was so impressed with the writeup and editorial i read them over several times i attended the variety show on the thursday evening and enjoyed it so much i was tempted to return on the friday now i wish i had on occasions when we tend to be critical of teenagers its nice to hear about the good things they do i appreciate very much the fact you saw fit to bring this incident to your readers attention otherwise many of us would never have known about it sincerely shirley an tonelll rr 3 stouffville christmas tale with best wishes from the library staff twas the night before xmas when aery hip elf settled himself on a high library shelf he opened a book of old nursery rhymes then snapped his small fingers a couple of times lets move it he laughed well have us a ball and out popped ma goose miss muffet and all with cat on the fiddle boy blue on the horn they partied and danced and blew up a storm king cole did the slosh humptydumpty the twist v- til he fell to the floor thoroughly whisked bopeep pranced around quite unashamed that her wandringsheep were not library- trained the duke of yorks men marched faster and faster jack spratt and his wife cooked potfuls of pasta lets swing it the elf yelled to dancers and band who not being hip did not understand they grabbed the spaghetti and twirled it around til soon it was spattered on ceiling and ground as twentyfour blackbirds swirled and swooped everyone slithered and whirled and whooped books toppled down and cards neatly filed scattered around as the library went wild now all of this story is pure makebelieve a fantasy tale of a mad xmas eve the night after xmas when bert went to clean the library was silent and neat and serene he vacuumed the carpet but stopped in midstride to pick up a book that lay open wide old nursery rhymes he musedto himself as he put it back up on the high library shelf and thats when he saw a most puzzling sight c there up above on the ceiling skylight where snowflakes had fallen like sprinkled confetti dangled a solitary strand of spaghetti annie woolhead stouffville mrs annie woolhead a remarkable lady highly respected by a host of close friends passed away dec 11 in the stouffville nursing home she was 90 a native of browns corners scarborough mrs woolhead possessed such strength of character that in the words of a daughter mrs george francis we couldnt cry at the funeral we came away rejoicing mrs francis told how her mother suffered a stroke six years ago in spite of the seriousness of her illness at that time she made a marvellous recovery with the help of staff nurses she was able to walk again even though her physician urged her not to risk it mr woolhead predeceased his wife in 1951 surviving are four daughters marjory francis vera cain mary hardy irene somerville four sons edward james william and john 35 grandchildren 75 greatgrandchildren and 19 greatgreat grandchildren medal of understanding praise treeowner dear jim liked your story on the woodcutters ball up on elm road its given the town something to laugh about or smile about depending who youre talking to what pleased me most was the response by mr nugent the gen tleman who owned the lopped off bee he didnt sound the least bit irritated in fact be praised the people whod done him wrong i wonder how i or we would have reacted under the same situation quite dif ferently i suspect so to you mr nugent the medal of understanding for 1980 perhaps your profession a high school teacher has made you aware that to err is human- to forgive divine i hope you and your family receive some satisfaction out of seeing your beautiful evergreen all the more beautiful in front of the clock tower at the town square sincerely bruce ramer stouffer street stouffville service dear sir approximately two months ago a report was published in the tribune that the via rail commuter service from stouffville markham unionville milliken agincourt was repor tedly shortly to be discontinued since this daily service is a great ad vantage to many local residents- particularly in these days of gas shor tage 1 wrote a letter to via rail and have since received a very courteous letter from mr a r campbell vicepresident for ontario he wrote via rail has no plans to discontinue the stouffville to toronto service and no application for any change has been made any such report is mere speculation and totally without foundation since there seems to have been quite a bit of comment by local via rail users i thought mr cambells reply would be of interest to all sincerely je casson goodwood for gormley sad story dear editor so hwy 404 is now open through to gormley and commuters from stouffville can reach downtown toronto in 40 minutes- big deal before the political vips pat themselves on their proverbial backs too much i wonder how much thought they gave to the residents of gormley who are personally paying for this service what the province did to that com munity was outrageous had such a thing occurred in another part of york region a protest would have been organized that would have rocked the foundations of queens park in gormley the folks more or less accepted their fate hwy 404 is for the masses to h with the individual its not right but such is life may gormley rest in peace arnold
