editor im comparatively new to the community but not that new that i havent been able to perceive the strong moral fibre that lies at the roots of the municipality the influence of the church is much more noticeable here than in metro this is good this influence i feel makes itself felt in our education system both at the elementary and secondary level this is one of the reasons i contend that our schools particularly our high school operate at such a high level of moral ef ficiency the parents are keenly interested in whats going on and support all programs enthusiastically this interest rubs off on the students in spite of todays drugoriented society ive never wit nessed a more wonderful group of young people in conclusion i want to say how much i ap preciate your newpapers involvement with the schools and young folks in general this all helps to make this the finest community my husband and i have ever known j janice cooke rri stouffville modern society different today dear sir as the christmas season approaches i wonder sometimes how he might be received were he born i into this modern age of mangled morality and pragmatic principles would the propoents of atheistic materialism seek to destroy him would the quizzing herods of captive nations fear his influence would the church mandarins find him a threat to their spiritual authority would the press label him a fanatic and tv scholars try to trip him with their erudite questions would the militant left call him a facist would the militant right call him a communist as we sing the timeless carols and erect the christmas crib it might serve us well to ask who would stand up to be counted with him who would betray him who would deny him lest they become involved who would give middle- oftheroad responses or claim an open mind in lieu of committment all of which perhaps challenges us as to why we are celebrating christmas in the first place indeed it might help cut down on the buying binge and eating orgy that invariable leaves us out of sorts and out of pocket it might help us see the season as a time of rededication gratitude and goodwill at leastit helps this lone writer to say in the true spirit of christmas god bless us- everyone patricia young thewhitchurchstouffville recycling group sends wishes for a merry christmas and a happy recycling new year to our recycling merchants who have be a wonderful project for the municipality my name or picture will never t be memorialized in whitchurchstouffville but there are dozens of people- who should be remembered for their accomplishments past present and future if enough people get behind this venture- it suay some day become a reality lets hope so henry walton rjt 4 stouffville i dear mr thomas thankyou very much for the page i story
